  1. I think this product is great!!! I received it the day after I ordered it, and it is a WORKOUT!. I have lost over 10 lbs using this video and diet in just a few weeks. I would definately recommend. All you need for this video is hand weights. If you are just starting to work out, I would suggest doing the first week with no weights at all. That is what I did and my arms were still sore. Also, I was very sore in my legs the first day. I would suggest starting at the beginners level, and doing the workout with the girl to the right (if you are looking at the screen) She does a modified workout that is easier. Jillian does a great job of keeping you modivated etc. throughout the video. I have not yet moved from the beginners level, but plan to next week.
  2. I just recently used this video for the first time and I really did feel it EVERYWHERE the next day! Not in a bad way either.. I feel really motivated to use this video because I know that it is working.
  3. great for a person on the go with not much time toschedule in the gym or prior experience with an exercise routine. Video is perfect mix of exercises to target multiple areas of of body simultaneously. Best part need minimal accesories (mat 2 dumbells can even use can food ..)to get started , Ms Micheals makes it very simplistic which affords one with no excuses to delay! has potential to increase intensity, im just on fist video.
  4. I have had the 30 day shred for 2 months now. I am very busy with little time to spare. I do the workout 5 days a week, sometimes twice a day (once in morning and once in the evening). I take weekends off for other physical activities – running, flying kites, playing bocce). I was physically small when I began the shred – 5′4″ 110 lbs, but now I am getting tight. I am beginning to see a 6 pack in my abs for the first time in my life. I personally think levels 1, 2 and 3 are all intense. What matters is how much intention you put into the movements. Also, this workout is great if you have a very small space to work out in. I will keep doing this workout, increasing the size of the hand weights, indefinitely. I love putting in 20 solid minutes and getting results. If there is any other awesome 20 minute workout on the market, I would love to know about it. A few unsolicited tips. Five years ago, I weighed 20 pounds more than I do now. I did not go on a diet or make radical restrictions. I just gradually got healthier and my body began to change. I started working out slowly. I stopped smoking. I have always kept my face out of the sun and at 30 I get carded everytime I go to a bar or buy a bottle of wine. Other things I have always done: I eat what I want but never eat fast food. Never. I drink 1-2 glasses of red wine on most days. No beer or liquor. No carbonated beverages ever. No sugary soft drinks ever. And now I do the Shred 5 times a week and my body is starting to look amazing.
  5. Okay, first and foremost, I am a woman writing this review (HAHAHA!). I chose the title because my husband decided to try it out with me when I was still at Level one and, although he is in awesome shape, he couldn’t get all the way through. His exact words were, “Okay, she wins!”, and he sat down. But the great thing about it is that I think it hurt his ego a little bit and he came back the next day to redeem himself. This workout is awesome! I am still on Level Two, but I still get a great workout as I push myself a little harder each day. I have also read the other reviews that said to jump around in the levels to stave off boredom, so I am definitely game to try that. Anyway, you know that you are getting a good workout when you are yelling at Jillian on the television, and for my husband who is a fitness junkie, you know it works when he’s sweating like he’s worked out for an hour…..and it’s only 20 minutes! YAY to Jillian!!!
  6. I have been working out to this video every other day for the past three months, it has worked great. I started the level 3 workout after first month and have been doing it since. This week though i switched back to level two because i was getting a little to used to the work out. And the level two kicked my butt. I love that its 20min i know i can do it and i always a bust out a sweat. I guess i should do it for 30 days in a row, i might just see amazing results!
  7. Ive done the video for the past few days (level 1). I work out at the gym at least 4 days a week and just got the video to help stay in shape…I could hardly walk today. My legs hurt so bad I had to walk down the steps like I am 90 years old. It works SO well. Every time I felt like I HAD to stop Jillian would yell at me “If youre thinking of stopping DONT”! Everyone needs to buy this video.
  8. This workout will kick your butt, literally! It is a balanced mix of cardio and toning exercises, all targeted to work the entire body. There are three 20 minute workouts (beginner, intermediate, advanced), and you WILL be challenged, and you WILL feel the burn. Jillian is no nonsense, realistic, and will push you. I have only done Level 1 at this point, but so far I really like it! For example, I like that she doesn’t offer the modified version of the jumping jack, stating that she has 400 pound people doing it. And if a 400 pound person can do it, then so can you! The only “tradional” modified exercise is with push-ups, which is definitely helpful for people like myself who are not used to or even like doing push-ups. I have found that I can pump out 20 push-ups now without a problem! Jillian helped me realize through this DVD that I can do it. And if I can do it, then anyone can do it. Out of all the workout DVDs I have done THIS is the best one out there. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a challenge to their exercise routine.
  9. Time saving full body workout.I’ve only completed nine workouts on this dvd took a break from working out(for relocation) and since then along with the cardio max biggest loser dvd I’m for sure going to make it to 30 workouts.
  10. I’m not much of an exerciser actually I hate aerobics but I really liked this one. I am more of a yoga or pilates fan. This cd had enough activity to make me sweat and loose the pounds I have wanted to shed and still it made me feel good about exercising.
  11. I normally work out at the gym but due to some family medical issues I am having to work out at home now. This DVD is a good work out, simply choreographed, and it combines strenghth, cardio, and ab work–all in twenty minutes. We all have twenty minutes to devote to our health, right? I sometimes do two levels in one session for an added challenge. I think it’s a good DVD for all fitness levels.
  12. I was a novice at doing at home workout videos prior to purchasing this one. I liked Jillian’s approach on TBL show. I went on Amazon to purchase a different workout dvd mentioned in Us Weekly and this one caught my eye. The price was good and the reviews were too. I got it home and I have to say it really impressed me. Her 3-2-1 method really works. I’ve gone through all 3 levels now and each one is a challenge. Although they are only 20 mins these workouts are TOUGH. Get ready to sweat. I would suggest using 3lb weights to start out with. I use 5 but for a few of the moves it gets really tough. I’ve seen great results in a short amount of time. This one will be in my video rotation for a long time. I look forward to trying her new videos next.
  13. I have to say, I was skeptical. I have a graveyard of DVDs and wondered how this might be different. I have two children, work full time and have been grieving over my lack of time to work out. I read the reviews and thought I would give it a try (especially given the $9 price tag). Here is what I LOVE: 1. It is 20 minutes. You can do anything for 20 minutes! 2. The moves are simple yet effective. I have trained with a personal trainer and the combo cardio, strength and abs is old school and proven. 3. You can turn OFF Jillian’s instruction. This feature is great because after doing the video a few times, you can begin to recite her comments and they are distracting. 4. There are three levels. I have yet to move through all three but the first two begin at intermediate so you do not feel that you are starting on too easy a level. 5. If you do this workout 3-6 days per week you WILL see improvements. I saw some definition after THREE workouts and not much dieting. Woo hoo! Here is what can use some improvement: 1. The long intro which you cannot skip through. 2. The music – a little bland but I can deal with that. All in all, this is by far the best investment you can make for your physical health. It is a must have for Moms who what their shape back after having the kids. THANK YOU JILLIAN!
  14. I’ve been athletic and in shape for my whole life. I have recently been slacking and needed something to get me back in to the routine and motivated. For a little more than 20 minutes I get a great workout. I really don’t need to lose weight but would like to tone up before summer;). It leaves me with a good amount of soreness. I also wear my HRM and my heart rate is up there the whole time!!! Great DVD and workout for anyone who has a busy schedule! Highly recommended!
  15. I work out almost daily but get bored easily. This DVD is perfect for those days when I do not have time to drag myself to the gym or I am just not motivated, because after all, I can stand anything for just 20 minutes. That is the beauty of this….only 20 minutes a day of a totally intense workout!!!! I started with Level 1, and got through it with little trouble. Level 2 is just right for me now – and I thought I was already pretty fit (for example, I go for one hour runs, do pilates, a bit of kick boxing). I cannot imagine Level 3, it must be intense!
  16. I really dig this DVD. I use it almost every day. The short, well-balanced workouts was the biggest selling point for me. Twenty minutes and you’re done. No matter how tired I was at the end of the day, I knew I could push through another twenty minutes. And I feel so much better afterwards. With this DVD, I now believe that I can incorporate exercise into my day for a healthier lifestyle.
  17. I am just getting back into exercise. I really like how there is 3 levels so you can choose yours. I quick 20 min. great work out. I would highly recommend. I really like it!
  18. I love this workout DVD but they force you to watch the entire intro/promo before you start the workout. Next and Fast Forward are prohibited until you’ve wasted about 3 minutes watching them try to sell more stuff.
  19. just finished it for the first time and i have to say that i love it. i never thought i could get an awesome sweat in 20 minutes. i don’t even have hand weights yet, and it still rocked. i feel better than if i had put in an hour in the gym. i really like the fact that jullian takes the time to explain the proper form for the excersizes as well. the only negative is that the jumping jacks are a little difficult for me as a larger chested person.
  20. I consider myself to be at least moderate, if not advanced. I had a set of 5 lb. hand weights at home and decided to give it a shot, thinking with 5 lb. weights it would be easy. HA! She kicked my butt-even on level 1. I have been doing this dvd on most days of the week for about 7 weeks now. I have lost 18 lbs. and feel shredded! (Mind you, I have been following weight watchers for diet for the same amount of time, so it is a combined effort!) But my body is definitely more toned and you can see definite muscles in my arms and shoulders, and abs!! Sometimes I do level 3, skip the cool down and go back to level 2 (skipping the warm up) for at least 1 or 2 circuits…just for a longer workout than the “20 minutes”. I would definitely recommend this dvd-especially if you have had some experience with weight lifting. Not really for the beginner, though.
  21. The moves really dont seem that difficult. The workout is divided into 3 segments so mentally 3 does not seem that hard of a number to do. This kept me going. It was like.. ” only 2 more.” ” Only 1 more.” Jillian knows what she is doing, because I actually broke a sweat and felt like jello the next day. This is from only 20 min. of workout. It hurts the first few times then gets better. This video will work you out.
  22. I have been doing this workout for thirty days now, and I notice big differences. It is a very hard workout, but being only twenty minutes makes it easy to fit into your schedule. Almost every exercise works your whole body at once. You can spend an hour of your day walking with very little difference in fitness, or you can work out for twenty minutes and see your body change!
  23. This is a great hard workout that makes you feel like you worked out for hours and each level is only 30 minutes – she is a great trainer and it seems to be working out great for me. If you dont have alot of time and want to feel like you are getting a good workout this is the DVD for you.
  24. I love this workout. It’s great to do when you are short on time, or not feeling the motivation to work out because you just have to convince yourself..20 minutes! Or you can do 2 of them for a full workout. My only complaint is that you can’t skip to the workouts when pushing menu…You have to listen to Jillian talk about the 3 workout levels EVERY time for about 3 minute before you can workout. It gets extremely annoying! I have to go put the DVD in early and leave the room to do something so its ready when I come in.
  25. This DVD will no doubt get your heartrate up. Watch out for your knees and shoulders !
  26. I have bad knees from years’ old repeat injuries. Jillian is a great motivator and this is a killer workout. However, I can’t do a lot of the leg work because it’s all jumping and squats (both of which my physical therapist says can’t do anymore without causing permanent damage). If your knees will take it, you’ll blast off the pounds with this one. As for me, I’ll be figuring out modifiers for a while, because Jillian doesn’t offer any. She assumes that overweight people are merely overweight and not also injured. True for some, but not all of us.
  27. I did this video for 30 days and as a nursing student I ran around alot anyways as a work out. I didn’t lose weight since I don’t have much to lose anyways but I lost 1 pant size so I’m happy:) This workout is tough and really hard on the back and knees especially on level 2 and 3. I still give it a 5 star for it being effective on toning the body:)
  28. This workout video is a great kick butt work out for 20 minutes, but it is only 20 minutes. If you are short on time, this is a great work out. I work out 4 to 5 times a week and this gets my heart pumping. My only thing is Jillian talks the whole time which gets on my nerves. I started off with level 1, but quickly moved onto Level 2 after a couple times, etc.
  29. This dvd is great for anyone who is seriously looking for results in a short amount of time. There are 3 20 minute workouts at 3 different levels. I’ve been doing level one for a few weeks and it was hard at first (stamina-wise) but my body has definitely built up it’s stamina and I’m already seeing results. You need a mat and hand weights for this dvd.
  30. I once met a trainer who told me that before getting into personal training she never went to a gym. She did all her workouts at home. This rang true for me because unless you want to be a body building champion, workout equipment at gyms is irrelevant for most of us. Since then I began a search for the perfect at home workout that I could substitute a gym membership with. As a busy person, who isn’t in New York City?, this perfect workout had to be done in under an hour. I have compiled a pretty good library of short-format workouts spanning strength training to pilates to yoga. Although some of these are excellent and accomplish what they set out to do, they always required additional components in order to achieve full-body balance. What’s great about Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is that you could stick with this as your only workout for a while and achieve a healthy, toned physique. The only thing I do aside from this is yoga and it’s because I love it and get benefits beyond the physical from it. But, if you’re mostly searching for a complete strength training/cardio/abs combination, you cannot go wrong with this DVD. (P.S.: this is my first review for an amazon product – ever – I’ve been purchasing from the site and enjoying other people’s reviews since 1997.)
  31. I consider myself in pretty athletic shape and this video was still a challenge. She really gets a great workout in 20 minutes! I couldn’t be happier because I now have a back up plan for those days I can’t make it to the gym or don’t have a whole heck of a lot of time to invest in my workout. I love that she is not cheesy like some can be! This video works all parts…arms, abs, legs…I love it!
  32. Jillian is the greatest. I like her style. There are other videos I like and have found useful. Confidence by the instructor was never anything I looked for. I felt, “Here is someone I can trust.” I looked back on some other videos and found them to be trustworthy too. I have lost a couple pounds. Due to emergencies I have not been faithful to the commitment she asks for.
  33. My only complaint is that you can’t fast forward through her two minute enterence pep talk, there fore the 20 minute workout turns in to 25-26 minute workout, which is great….if you have the spare time. The work out itself is fantastic though, she really keeps you movin.
  34. These three work-outs are harder than they look. The only thing that bothers me is that you can’t skip Jillian’s intro to the program everytime you use it. On my P90X DVDs I can skip right to the work-out. Jillian definitely rocks.
  35. I’ve had a hard time finding an exercise DVD because I am extremely uncoordinated. I can’t handle the choreography in most workouts, but this workout is perfect! I’m in decent shape (good diet, walk a lot) but I don’t really ever exercise on purpose. I am on day 3 and I’ve been sore since the morning I woke up after the first day, but I can get through the workout (I’ll be at level 1 for a while) without giving up due to stepping on my own feet. I live in a tiny studio apartment (I have about 6 square feet to do my workout in when I push my coffee table out of the way) and I like to go to work early. This workout fits into my morning routine and my tiny space. Overall, I’m really pleased and would recommend it to any beginner who feels intimidated by the fancy moves in other DVDs.
  36. TALK ABOUT KICKING MY BUTT! I TRIED THE VIDEO YESTERDAY FOR THE FIRST TIME AND NOW I KNOW WHY THE CONTESTANTS ON THE BIGGEST LOSER CRY WHEN THEY’RE WORKING OUT. I ONLY DID LEVEL 1, BUT BECAUSE I’M SO OUT OF SHAPE THE SOLES OF MY FEET WERE BURNING!! YOU JUST HAVE TO KEEP SAYING TO YOURSELF “IT’S ONLY 20 MINUTES, IT’LL BE OVER SOON!!”
  37. I just started working out at home (duh–who needs a gym?) I don’t have a TV, so I wasn’t familiar with Jillian Michaels from “The Biggest Loser.” The workouts are great–a nice progression of easy-to-learn, tough-to-master moves–and they get very challenging in the second and third levels. After nine or ten viewings, Jillian’s personality really started to wear on me. It’s not so much about health for her as it is about appearance and “jeans shopping.” She’s just sort of grating and bossy. So, now I watch the videos with the sound off and listen to my own music (workout video music seems to suck universally). Much nicer. I recommend this video for the workout but you might want to mix it up with some more friendly instructors.
  38. Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred My favorite thing about this workout video is that the workouts are only 20 minutes long. During my first workout I couldn’t wait for those 20 minutes to be over. THIS IS A WORKOUT!!!!! I would be considered a beginner for the purposes of workout videos. Jillian explains how you can modify some of the workouts to be more accomodating to a beginner. I have knee issues so I had to take it easy on some of the lunging activities, but I totally worked up a sweat and there was no doubt the following day as to which muscles got the most workout. If you like Jillian Michael’s you will like this video.
  39. This video is well worth the money. I use it on days when I’m only running a couple of miles. She works your body!
  40. I am usually a morning gym go-er but I decided to give Jillian a try this morning. I put this DVD on my laptop in my room as to not wake up everyone in the house. For those of you who have mentioned that you cannot fast forward through her pep talks at the beginning- I was able to breeze through it on my laptop. This DVD really got my heart rate up! I was red in the face at the end of the workout- which is always a sign for me that i’ve had a good workout. I intend to use this DVD to supplement what I already do at the gym.
  41. the exercises look simple enough…but looks are deceiving. If you really want to bust through that plateau – Jillian is definately the one to do it. I saw results after one week.
  42. The dvd is highly annoying in the beginning because it does not allow you to skip through the long intro. The music is very boring, and the trainer talks a bit too much. Level one is okay, though I did not go back to it after the first couple of times-it gets really easy and boring. Level two and three are fine, although again the music leaves a lot to be desired. I don’t watch reality TV and I guess the trainer is on some weight loss show, but really-who cares? I was also really ticked by her use of profanity, especially since I always work out in the mornings and my 10 yr old is usually nearby getting ready for school. I have had the dvd for about a month now and am ready to move on to something else.
  43. The 30 Day Shred is basically 3-20 minute progressively more difficult workouts. Each workout is basically a circuit (this could be why some have criticized it as repetitious): One part strength training (3 minutes,if I recall), one part cardio (2 minutes), one part abs (1 minute). There are 3 participants: Jillian, a person who does the more advanced versions, and a person who does the lower intensity more modified versions. The footwork in the cardio segments is NOT difficult so for those with 2 left feet, don’t worry about tripping over yourself. The strength training exercises are also straightforward (I wouldn’t say easy, because you will feel it). HOWEVER, lower intensity does not necessarily mean your feet won’t leave the floor. So, for those with bad knees or other joint issues (like myself) you may need to further modify the moves or just skip them altogether. Some reviewers stated that Jillian provides NO instruction as to form. This is simply not true. Numerous times she warned not to extend the knee too far over the foot, maintain proper back alignment, etc. But, for complete novices to all things fitness, it may be difficult to remember to keep your back straight/abs in/knees not over the foot/upright row/ all while maintaining a squat position. Now that I think about it, even some more advanced/experienced exercisers might have difficulty. Other reviewers commented on Jillian’s personality. True, she is not your perky, twinkle in the eye instructor, who bounces all over the studio spreading sunshine and rainbows. For those who prefer that sort of instructor, Denise Austin, anyone? Jillian IS tough. She is NOT there to be your friend or make you feel all warm and fuzzy. She repeatedly says throughout the video that you have to want it. That this is your time, your workout and if you want to be a better you, fitness-wise you WILL have to push yourself. It’s up to YOU. The ONLY exercise that really gave me pause is in the most advanced workout: The straight-leg sit up. I am not a personal trainer or a medical professional, and maybe current sit up research shows otherwise, but I have always understood that straight leg sit ups can seriously strain a person’s back. Overall, I think this is a decent workout provided that a person understands and can maintain proper form and knows how to modify exercises that might be difficult for that person.
  44. …. and loving the tape. Jillian does a good job of offering modifications for different levels. I have bad knees so I appreciated that. Although the actual workout is really only 18 minutes, she keeps you moving the entire time. I like that you do 3 circuits, I tend to get bored easily. Overall pretty good for an at home workout.
  45. This DVD is a good workout, you’ll work up a great sweat. But it’s not for those with knee or hip problems. It’s a lot of lunging and jumping so if those things bother you then I wouldn’t suggest your purchase this DVD. Jillian isn’t big on stressing proper form on some of the moves either. There are lots of old gym class moves like squat thrusts, jumping jacks, and bicycle crunches. The 3 levels are challenging and you’ll feel stronger by the end. I’d recommend doing each level until you’ve mastered it, even if it takes longer than 30 days to finish all 3 levels because moving to the next level before you’re ready will probably lead to injury or burn out. The warmup and stretching for the vids are pretty weak.
  46. I got this DVD in the mail and ran in to try it! You see and feel immediate results. Jillian keeps you motivated the whole time! I love to do my workouts all the time! I can’t wait to do them and I am seeing positive results! HIGHLY recommend it! Totally kicks you butt!!!
  47. This is a fantastic workout dvd, it packed so much in 20 mins, and i promise, you will sweat till you drop after doing this, and with 3 levels, it fits everyone one from beginner to advance, Jullian is a great yet tough trainer. I highly recommand it!
  48. This product was shipped to me on time without any defects. I would buy from this seller again.
  49. I received my Dvd 2 days ago. The first day was hard, the cardio being the worst, but once you figure out that its only 30 seconds per workout and dont count the seconds, they fly by. The second day I found that doing the workouts actually made my sore body feel better and now (day 3) I cant wait to do the workouts because it makes me feel less sore while doing them. I was weak after the first one, but besides just being sore, after the second workout I wasnt nearly as shaky. It feels great! I recommend this DVD to all my co-workers that are wanting to lose weight. I dont know about her promise to lose 20 lbs in 8 weeks, but we’ll see in 8 weeks!
  50. Wow. This video is intense! I’m very overweight and out of shape, so start my workout schedule with this video. I can definitely see and feel a difference just after a week with this video. My biggest problem is Jillian. I know she’s “tv’s toughest trainer” but she just gets so annoying. I can’t stand listening to her, she’s just not encouraging at all. I’m not asking for babying, but a little encouragement instead of belittling would be nice. But at the same token, she gets the job done! It’s a great video, a great workout and she knows what she’s doing. Now if she’d just stop talking. But I definitely recommend it if you’re serious about losing weight and getting into shape!
  51. My wife and I watch “The Biggest Loser” together. We’re fans of Jillian so we decided to give this a try. It’s a fun and very tough workout.
  52. If you are a fan of Jillian, as my husband and I are, and you want to loose weight this is for you! I have always had trouble staying motivated with workout DVDs because I usually don’t like the trainer. My husband and I LOVE Jillian! So I thought I would try this out. We are on week 4 now! I have a 5lb loss and my husband has a 9lb loss. We plan on continuing after the 30 days. We might even buy another of Jillian’s DVDs.
  53. I have been active for most of my life and have been a fan of Taebo for sometime now. But I felt I had plateaued with my Taebo Extreme DVD and was looking for a more challenging workout. Boy did I find it with Jillian Michaels’ 30-Day Shred! And because I had plateaued with the Taebo, I found myself sweating more during Jillian Michael’s 20-minute workouts than I was doing 45 minutes of Taebo. Now, there is nothing new or creative about the moves Jillian uses but if you follow her routines to a “tee”, you WILL see results. I’m telling you! She offers 3 levels and recommends strongly that you begin with level one. Follow this advice! As I mentioned, I’d been doing Taebo and I started on Level one, as instructed, and I’m glad I did. After a week, I switched to Level 2 and my body is surely feeling it. I have a sneaky feeling I’ll be on Level 2 a bit longer than Level 1 but who cares. Michael’s 30-Day Shred is getting it done for me. And she is so in-your-face and tells you no lies about what you need to do if you REALLY want to shed weight. She’s a great motivational instructor with two great, in-shape workout partners, with one showing any modifications necessary and the other more advanced. If you are serious about upping your cardio workouts to lose more weight, you’ve got to try this DVD. You can rent it from Blockbuster Online or Netflix to try it out first; but I recommend just buying it. It’s totally worth it.
  54. I had decided that I wanted to order a workout DVD…something not too lengthy, so that it would be easier for me to stick to. After looking through a LOT of DVDs, I finally decided on this one due to all of the positive reviews. I am SO GLAD that I purchased 30 Day Shred! Here’s why: *First of all, it is definitely not lengthy! Each of the 3 workouts are just 20-25 minutes long. Jillian keeps it short, but the fact that she doesn’t really allow for rest makes it extremely challeging. *I love her circuit-training style; it really kept me from getting bored! I also liked that there were 3 levels, so that you can progress as you get stronger. *None of the moves are complicated. It’s all old-school stuff that you probably already know how to do. It’s just the way that she combines the movements that will really make you sweat! I originally planned on doing the Shred for 30 days in a row, with no additional exercise so that I could see how the video worked on its own. I got through day 26, and then got sick so I had to rest for a week. After I felt better I picked it back up and finished my last 4 days…and in 30 days I lost 4.5 pounds and 5.5 total inches! I was thrilled with that, considering I went a whole week without working out and my eating habits weren’t perfect at the time. But I can really SEE and FEEL the difference. I can see that I’ve lost a lot of fat off my body, and I’m getting definition in muscles that I didn’t even know I had. On top of that, I’m definitely stronger and more flexible. I just can’t believe such a difference was made in only 30 days! I plan on continuing to do the Shred a few times a week, combined with Jillian’s “Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism” DVD which I’ve just started (and also LOVE so far!). I’ve only got 6 more pounds to lose and I know I can do it! GET THIS DVD! You won’t be sorry! ***And a tip to all those who are sick of seeing the entire intro. every time you start the video: I think I’ve figured out a trick! I use a PS3, and after I’m done with the workout each morning, I select which level I want to do the next day. As soon as it starts playing, I hit “pause” and THEN turn off my DVD player. The next morning it starts where I paused it so I don’t have to go through the intro. again! I don’t know if this will work on all DVD players, but it definitely works if you have a PS3!
  55. This dvd is great for people that dont have a lot of time in there day and wanna still get the results of a two hour gym workout.. I was sweating my butt of just five min into it. No breaks No Nosense my kind of workout just results.. You wont go wrong with this dvd. It wont be collecting dust like my others.. Thanks jillian *Megan*
  56. If your on a time crunch this video will kick your %$#@*!!!!! Love it love it love it, I recommend it to everyone I know. It saved me from being suck in my usual workouts. A MUST TRY!
  57. This is the first exercise DVD I’ve purchased. I made my selection based on other reviews, and was not disappointed. Get ready for a very tough work out with solid results. I wanted to get toned, and lose about 6-8 lbs. I started about 3 weeks ago, and lost 5 pretty quickly – adjusting my diet to control calories. This DVD works many important areas of your body, elevates your heart rate, and generally gives you an excellent awareness of what you need to do to get yourself in shape. I’ll be looking for additional Jillian Michaels DVDs that focus on abs and glutes. BTW, my 15 y/o daughter does this too – and loves it. Well worth the 20 minutes. I’ve recommended this to many friends looking for a streamlined, impactful exercise routine. There are 3 levels; I’m struggling through level 2, and I’m hugely athletic – tennis, golf, swimming, running…etc. Get ready to swear and sweat.
  58. This dvd is exactly what I wanted it. 3 different work out levels, and they’re all intense. It’s a great dvd and it makes me want to really keep up with the 30 days. I’ve already seen results after 10 days so I’m anxious to see the results after 30! You will not be disappointed with this product, if you are ready to work hard and lose weight then this is the perfect workout dvd for you!
  59. I’m a fairly healthy guy, in my late 20s, and pretty out of shape. I found this to be a good workout for me… in fact, I’m still just doing the level 1 workout, and it’s giving me a run for my money! I like the idea of combining strength and cardio in one quick, hard hitting workout.
  60. This DVD is everything it promises to be; there is no sugar coating and no silver lining. I was a competitive gymnast for 17 years, including 4 years as a collegiate gymnast. Every since I graduated in 2007 I have been trying to find an effective DVD workout. I work full time and am working on my Master’s, and this DVD still manages to fit right into my schedule. It is an intense, interval geared workout that is surely to promise results if you apply yourself. The format reminds me a lot of the conditioning I was faced with as a gymnast. The exercises are not acrobatic, but the interval format is just the same…..and I am here to tell you that the intervals in this DVD work, just as they did when I was a gymnast. My arms, legs, and abs have definitely toned back up! I will incorporate this DVD into my workouts far past the 30 day mark. *Side note*: Although the DVD is labeled “30″ day shred, I would urge those that are not already avid exercises not to get discouraged. Level 1 is a sweat, level 2 is challenging, and level 3 is just downright difficult, but you don’t have to reach level 3 by day 20. Go at your pace….even if that means sticking with level 1 for 30 days before moving on to level 2. Move when you are comfortable. As long as you are working out at some level (several days a week) and staying in motion the whole DVD through you will see results. All in all BEST workout DVD I own and best results I have seen out of all the DVD programs I have tried.
  61. Jillian kicks my butt every time! I’m getting toned for my wedding and already seeing a difference in my arms. Love more definition and less fat. I’m going to incorporate bicycling and jogging since I think more cardio is needed. She is very inspirational and I like how she counts down “3 more, 2 more, give me 1 more!” since it helps me not give up.
  62. the video is easy at first and then gets tougher as you progress but you have to keep doing the workouts every day. definately worth the money. i love jillian!
  63. This workout is a bit tough for beginners but Jillian is very very encouraging and pushes you through the workout. Her concept of 3 2 1 strength , cardio and Abs is very effective!
  64. I dropped a bunch of weight by running and using gym cardio equipment for about a year before I bought this video. I wanted to add strength training to my weekly routine so I could work on toning. This video is perfect for that – 3 levels of 20-minute workouts that kick your butt. I am really noticing results, and it is hard to find excuses not to fit in a 20-minute workout. I am also pretty uncoordinated and this is not hard to follow.
  65. I thought my wife was silly for wanting to buy a silly exercise DVD by Jillian, the hyped-up “Biggest Loser” trainer. I respect Jillian and have watched her on the previous seasons train the contestants. I thought this was just another way to make money on the marketing of the TV show. I was mistaken. I just completed my first workout with my wife (she challenged me to give it a shot) and it completely drained me. For a guy that can run 7-miles without a problem and lift weights in the gym for 90 minutes twice a week… that is saying a LOT!
  66. First off I am NOT an exercise dvd type of person, or even a gym-goer. The most exercise I’ve ever done in 37 yrs is yoga and hiking, and even those i’m not disciplined about. I’ve wanted to lose 10 pounds or so since having kids and haven’t been able to shift a pound no matter what i do. I also needed more exercise for my emotional well being and to help with hormonal issues, but as a single mother I don’t get time to get out to the gym or running consistently. Hence resorting to an exercise DVD. And, this woman has changed my life! I’ve been doing this dvd almost daily for a month now and am hooked. The workouts are intense but the perfect short length for me and afterwards I’m exhausted but feel great. I like her no nonsense approach. I like that all I need are a mat and some weights. I like that it’s working all areas of my body and I can already feel muscles I never knew I had. I could keep doing the 3 levels on this dvd for a long time before getting bored. I feel so much better physically, am starting to drop some weight, and have more energy than in years. Jillian rocks.
  67. I work very long days and and the amount of time I have to exercise is extremely limited. My main reason for purchasing this DVD was because of the good reviews AND the fact that its only 20 minutes. Let me tell you all something…these 20 minutes will make you wonder why on earth you spent as much time at the gym as you did. I was in OK shape when I started this DVD, but could definitely afford to lose a few lbs and tone up. Its been a week on level 1 and already I feel a difference in my strength and endurance. These workouts are TOUGH but like Jillian says, if you want results, you have to work for them. My arms look better, my face looks better, my butt is smaller, and I dont get winded after climbing 2 flights of stairs. I am looking forward to starting level 2 this week. I was a little concerned doing the same exercise every day but by the time your body starts getting used to it, its time to go to the next level. Im not sure whether its my DVD player or not but I think I figured out a way to skip the entire introduction. I just leave the DVD in the player and the next morning hit PLAY and it immediately goes right to the workout screen. Give it a try!
  68. This video is great. In only 20 minutes Jillian Michaels works everything. You will definitely feel it the next day. Definitely worth the money.
  69. Just adding to everyone else comments who love this DVD-so do I. I first did this video with my sister in law just to see why she loved it so much. I thought I was going to die but then went right out bought my own copy and have been doing this video for about 6 weeks about 3 times per week (my packed schedule doesn’t allow me to do it everyday) and I have seen huge improvements in my strength, endurance, and I just feel great all over. I am on Day 5 of Level 2 and I feel myself improving each time. I like that Jillian pushes you and helps you feel like you really can get through the excercises. The fact that you can’t skip the first two minutes of introductions on the DVD and go straight the start menu is annoying so I just turn the DVD on while I am still getting my workout gear and sneakers on so that I am just not standing there wasting time. Overall, this is a great workout and if you really push yourself, you will see results right away.
  70. I have to say starting out that I do not watch The Biggest Loser as I am not a big tv watcher and find most shows a waste of my time. If I had I probably would not have gotten this video since her voice just *grates* on my nerves and I really don’t like it when she says to “look at her girls” as they are exercising. Even my nine year old told me never to do that work out again since “the instructor scared” her. It is an ok workout, although if you do only one section, extremely short. I prefer Jari Love, The Firm, Tracy Effinger, and exercising longer than 20 minutes at a time. This one just wasn’t for me.
  71. I had heard some good things about this video and that’s why I bought it. I was very disapponted for the following reasons. Jillian does a lot of tough talking that becomes annoying to listen to after the third workout. She is not friendly and is certainly not someone I would look forward to spending 30 minutes with every day. I also don’t recommend this video to anyone over 40 or who has had children. A good portion of her aerobic section consists of Jumping Jacks for which she offers no alternative. The routine is both shin-splitting and pant-wetting. yuk!
  72. I have done this dvd 12 times and today just moved up to level 2. Level 2 is definitely a lot harder than level 1. I do like this dvd but I haven’t lost any pounds at all yet. That part is a little disappointing but I am not dieting so it is partly my fault. I say PARTLY because I don’t really eat unhealthy so I don’t really need to diet. So I’m not really sure why I haven’t lost any weight yet but I’m going to keep at it. Maybe I will once I continue with level 2. I only want to lose 10 lbs and I have been told that when you don’t need to lose a lot of weight, it is harder than people who have a lot to lose. I’m not sure how true that is but it is the only thing I can think of as to why I haven’t lost any yet.
  73. I know that people continue to say this (over and over and over again) but I must emphasize it: JILLIAN KICKS YOUR BUTT! Now, mind you, I am only on day 2 of getting shredded (I PROMISE to post a review when 30 days are over). If you’re looking for an easy, quick workout…look elsewhere! If you’re looking for a workout that burns and makes you sore (good sore), then this workout is definitely for you! But, I do have to let you know: if you have knee problems, I would suggest trying a different workout. Or, if you have high blood pressure, I would suggest the same thing. Also, after your second workout, you will probably get bored of Jillian talking. No, she doesn’t do that peppy “You’re almost there! You can do it! Push!” stuff (only on occasion towards the end of the workouts). But, she does monolouge. (”Now, why are we using the 3-2-1 method?” “Look at those abs, I would do anything to get those abs.”) SO, I’m going to start putting my iPod on while watching the screen. That way, I can keep up with Jillian but I don’t have to be dying of boredom. I’ll only have to die of soreness. All in all, I REALLY recommend this DVD and I will post my results for everyone who is still not sure how awesome Jillian is!
  74. Im on day 4 on the shred work out, and is great! I like level 2..level 1 after a few days is too easy, and level 3 is too hard (for me) , in four days I feel my body becoming stronger and is eager to keep on..Im not into excercising but this video makes you want to wait for tomorrow for your next session…Jillian is a great instructor…I highly recommend this video….In 20 minutes you sweat like you was working out for about an hour…Jillian sure knows what she is doing!
  75. Just as many reviews indicate, this workout is very difficult. I haven’t gotten past level one. I am using five pound weights and wonder if I should have started with three pounds. I have done the workout probably 10 times now (2-3 times per week). The numbers on the scale haven’t changed but I know it has got to be doing something good for me because it works me so hard! This workout is easy to follow and you don’t have to be coordinated to do it. (Thank goodness) I would recommend this workout video but don’t get discouraged when you find out how difficult it is. Just do the best you can with it!
  76. I like how challenging this short workout is, but I find that my knees are killing me when its over, the jumping jacks and jumping rope really aggravates them. I’m ready to move up to a higher level but not sure that my knees can take it. Have never had this problem with a workout dvd before. I would recommend this to others that are pressed for time, its hard but you know you can stick with it for 20 minutes, it goes by fast.
  77. I love the Shred. It’s a quick effective workout (especially when you’d rather be doing something else). There are 3 different levels so you can work at your own level until you’re ready to move up. Great purchase!
  78. This is the 1st exercise video I ever purchased and it really works!!! I am 56 yr. old, approx. 50 lbs overweight, and haven’t exercised in a few years. After 1 1/2 weeks, I noticed a flatter stomach and the weight peeling off!! The first 2 days were tough and I thought I was going to DIE, but I didn’t give up. I couldn’t do the entire 1st workout without stopping for a few minutes, but I gradually worked up my stamina. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS VIDEO to the BEGINNER who is totally out of shape and really wants to see quick results!!! JUST TAKE YOUR TIME AND DON’T GIVE UP!!! Each segment is ONLY 20 MINUTES!!!! That’s just 20 MINUTES a day for a GREAT workout!!!!!
  79. This is a great, effective but fast, circuit workout. You will see quick results in just a couple of weeks.
  80. This is a great workout video! I was so sore the first few days. If I would stick to it, I’m sure it would really work. Plus, Jillian is actually a lot nicer in this video than she is on the show. )
  81. This workout is only 20 minutes- but there are three levels. I love how it is set up to do strenghth, cardio, and abs. I can really feel it working!
  82. I highly recommend this workout for anyone looking for a challenging workout in only 25 minutes. The three separate workouts on this DVD build in intensity and are tough, but in a good way. Jillian does a good job pushing you to work hard, while not coming off as annoying like other home workouts I’ve tried. I started by completing the level one workout just once and figured I could skip ahead and do level two the next time. I am surprised and excited to say I am going to have to go back to level one for a while. This means I will be able to use this DVD for quite some time!
  83. Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred Jillian is AWESOME.She doesn’t mess around. This is old school pushups, situps, bicycle crunches, plank pose with some tricep kick-backs, lunges…. it goes on and on. And that’s not even the cardio section, she has you doing jumping jacks, her famous “butt kicks”, and punching in place. Jillian, thank you for creating something that really makes you FEEL stronger when you’re done. I know I can reach my fitness goals with this as part of my overall weight loss plan.
  84. I started doing these workouts at the end of April (I’ve done 2-3 workouts a week vs. doing it everyday) and in a month I lost over 3 INCHES off my waist, my stamina has improved greatly, and I can see definition in my body that I haven’t seen in years. I must say though, these aren’t for those who feel a little pain then quit. I didn’t consider myself very out of shape, but after the first session on level one I couldn’t walk straight for 6 days, but I felt amazing knowing that I had done it. Honestly, I’ve only done level one and two workouts and I’ve mixed them a bit along with doing some road biking (about 20-30 miles a week), but everytime I do a workout I feel AMAZING! I’ve recommended this to everyone I work with and my own family. Just stick with it and you’ll feel and see results in no time!
  85. Holy crap Jilliam is a beast! This dvd offers three workouts I am a beginner just a little overweight and I did the first workout. WOW she’s tough but she knows what shes doing! I worked muscles i didn’t even know i had! I could barely walk all the next day! If your looking for an easy way out than get used to being fat! Nothing in life worth having ever comes for free you have to work for it and like anything you work for you value it more! I am sore but hey no pain no gain -right!
  86. I like this video for the plain and simple fact that on Level 1, Jillian changes the exercises every 30-60 seconds. For me, that is important as I get bored easily with one exercise for a long period of time. I am on day 6 and find that each day gets easier. I have not made it to Level 2 or 3 yet. The first day after I did this workout, I could hardly walk because my legs hurt so bad. If Jillian “grates” on you, then no, you probably won’t like this workout video.
  87. I used to do The Firm workouts which typically last 45 min and never really broke much of sweat. But Jillian’s 30 Day Shred leaves me dripping in sweat after only 25 min. I have been using this DVD for almost 2 weeks now and have seen a vast improvement in my endurance. I have only lost 3 pounds, but more importantly I can tell that I am getting stronger and more in shape. I started by switching between the first two levels and now I rotate doing a different level each day. Some of the moves in level 3 are too difficult for me so in order to get a full workout, I substitute those tough moves with easier ones from levels 1 and 2. Overall, these are great workouts.
  88. This a wonderful workout tape if you are short on time and want a hard workout. It’s very challenging and I find Jillian Michaels very motivating, she really makes the time go by quickly. After I finish this DVD I feel great and energized. The only thing I don’t like is that you can’t skip over the introductions etc. for some reason, so usually I make sure I start the DVD several minutes before I want to start working out. Other than that …AWESOME
  89. Okay, this one KICKED MY BUM! I was so sore after the first day that I had to skip it the following day. I’m no stranger to working out and I feel that I’m in pretty good shape, but, this video is truly, an honest-to-goodness workout. Prepare yourself mentally before doing the first level because it’s not easy and wear good shoes. I have been using the video for two months now and I feel stronger. I’m sure I’ve lost a few pounds already. I switch between levels 1 and 2 to make it more fun and I tell you it doesn’t get any easier. I use 5-lb weights that seemingly become heavier as I move on to the next circuit. There is also a sense of accomplishment after. Highly recommended.
  90. Just tried level 1 today and it’s really good. I haven’t watched too many TBL shows, but Jillian kicks her teams’ butts and that’s a good thing. The 3 sets of 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs go by really quickly because you don’t get used to doing anything and getting bored. The exercises are pretty straight forward and there’s usually a modification for people just getting into this, although I would suggest being in a little bit of shape before trying. This isn’t for the very beginner. You could always use less weight or no weight at all. Same if you have a bad back or other injuries. I’m looking forward to doing the other levels as well. However, I’m surprised that she doesn’t look at buff as I’d expect her to look…would be interested in trying more, though.
  91. I never bought any of Jillian’s workout dvd’s before. I love this workout. There are 3 levels and you can pick any one you want to do. The workouts are only 30 minutes each, but they are awesome. You can feel the burn and know that you are getting a good workout. There is one girl that is doing the low impact workout and another girl doing the higher intensity workout. Jillian is just like having the real thing from “The Biggest Loser”. It makes her more real. I feel that the information on the back cover is very informative.
  92. I read the reviews here before I purchased this dvd, and saw the opposing viewpoints regarding the safety of jumping jacks. I am only about 25 pounds overweight and I’m 30 years old, pretty young I figured, so I thought that my body would be able to handle anything Jillian threw at me. I was wrong! I did the level one workout for two weeks, every day as well as 30 minutes on a treadmill. No doubt it is a good, solid exercise program. It made me sweat buckets and truly feel the exertion in keeping up with her. Unfortunately, my knees became increasingly strained and painful until a couple of days ago when I just decided to stop. I’ve returned to a program that has worked well for me in the past, Slim in 6. I can tell the difference between sore muscles that are a sign of progress, and the pain of a jammed or hyper-extended joint. Maybe I have improper form when I’m doing all those jumping jacks and jumprope moves and its my own fault, but I don’t know how to do it differently. Jumping jacks aren’t rocket science. All I can say is that I’m disappointed at having to stop halfway through the 30 days, but I’m just trying to lose weight and tone up. Not cause permanent, painful damage to my knees that impedes daily life, not just strenuous exercise. One more thing – my dvd ran through several minutes of introductory material upon every start-up before getting to the top menu. I was not allowed to skip to the workout menu or even fast forward through all the talk. Pretty annoying. I would start the dvd and then go change, get a glass of water, roll out the mat… and THEN it would be ready for me to select my workout level and start.
  93. I do like the workouts, I do like the trainer, but some of these moves are hard on the knees! The next day after working out, I had pain and stiffness in both knees, and I know Jillian is a big fan of “push yourself” so I didn’t wimp out during the workout. I paid for it the next day. My knees have been bothering me ever since, about two weeks now. I have still been doing the workouts, but am careful during the portions where I feel my knees may be stressed too much. So take a warning if you have bad knees…this isn’t for the weak kneed!!
  94. Oh wow! This is an awesome workout. 20 minutes of pure hell (but in a good way). Once you start doing it regularly, it gets easier and boy was I proud of myself when I could manage the first workout without stopping. (ok! maybe just for 5 secs. or so compared to 30 secs initially – lol). Also, its easier to get through with a workout buddy. I feel fabulous afterwords. I do change this routine with other workout videos, just to keep me interested.Haven’t given it 5 starts because the 2nd. workout (that’s what I have progressed to) is hard on my ‘bad’ knee. So I modify it a little, which she does suggest. I still get a good workout though.
  95. I have never been motivated to review a product on this site before BUT I love this video. I run intervals nearly every day and boredom had set in. This is a terrific workout — After two weeks my upper body strength is improving and my ability to lunge is a whole new game (running muscles do NOT equal lunging muscles). I cannot give it higher praise – I go back and forth between level 2 and level 3 to keep it interesting (with runs every other day) and always feel like I might die at some point (which is a good thing). A recent NY Times article questioned whether it was possible to get fit in 6 minutes a week (I will suggest that it is NOT possible for me) but in order to make this happen (ex. crossfit) you need to feel like you might die. For me — she gets me there!! Huge fan of Jillian and this video!!!
  96. I bought this video after reading reviews, since I wanted something to help me drop my baby weight, quickly and at home. The only thing I needed besides the video was carpet/rug and a set of light weights. I felt like I was in pretty good shape, even though wanting to tone up, prior to the video, but it was an extreme work out. I would not recommend this video as a starter for people making the decision to work on their weight being overweight, as it is very intense, even at level 1. The actual time you commit each day is 28 minutes, not 20 as expected – you have 4 minutes of warm up and cool down, with 20 minutes of intense work out. All in all, I love the video, and can put it in anytime to get in a quick work out.
  97. 30 day shred is Totally effective and doable. I am 61 and have recommended it to everyone I know.
  98. I’m ashamed to say that I thought I was in relatively good shape before I started this video – I was so, so wrong. I was sore for three days after trying level 1, but after the next few workouts it became easier and easier. I’m definitely seeing and feeling results, and I haven’t even managed to go past level 1 yet! I’m determined to stick to it until I can do push-ups properly, and then I can move on to level 2. ) I highly, highly recommend this video – it’s fast-paced and doesn’t require a lot of equipment, just some hand weights and a mat. I’ve been using 5lb weights, but I think that was a little ambitious to begin with. Anyway, I’m losing weight and feeling better – this is a great video! Thanks, Jillian!
  99. Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred offers you a quick, efficient workout with a knowledgeable, supportive trainer. I have a busy schedule, and this workout helps me burn calories and tone my body in less than 30 minutes. Jillian not only gives you 3 fitness level workouts, but each level has begining and advanced option. This workout DVD will last you a long time.
  100. Quick and yet effective! If you want a good workout and you don’t have a lot of time to fit into your schedule I would highly recommend this video. Three different levels of workouts. This might be only a 20 minute workout but it makes you sweat like you have worked out for an hour! Definitely worth the money I spent.
  101. I bought this based on reviews here. And it met all of my expectations and more! It’s great that I can get a VERY INTENSE workout in 20 minutes. I don’t dread putting in this DVD everyday like I do my other workout DVDs. It goes by so fast, but still gives you a REALLY great workout! Even my husband, who weight trains on a daily basis, got his butt kicked when he tried level 3. And really enjoyed it! I watched all the 3 levels once through. It LOOKED easy enough, but once I actually tried it out, I realized just how intense it was! Highly recommend.
  102. The program changes moves too quickly. It is not normal to change so quickly from standing to sitting to lie down. It put lots of stress on joints. Also, there are no option for biginner or some one with knee or back problem. The movements are not bad, but becareful with your knee and back.
  103. While the workouts themselves are fine, it’s very frustrating that I cannot skip ahead to the workouts without first sitting through introductions and blah, blah, blah (if I try, I receive a message that the function is not allowed on the DVD). So I’m forced to put in the DVD, start it, then roam off and do something else til all the useless talking is over with. And the comment that 400lb people can do this (level 1) is probably not true unless they are 25 and in decent shape. Level 1 is not a beginner workout, so if are over 40 and have not exercised in years, this is probably not a good workout – definitely not if you have health issues. I’m in my late 40’s and while I was never a gym rat, I was active most of my life, and spent several times a week in gyms til I was in my early 30’s. Since then, I’ve walked daily and exercised regularly. And, after 3 weeks of 3x weekly level 1 workouts, I still cannot complete it. I will eventually, but it will take more than a few weeks.
  104. I had a little trouble with delivery but i contacted the seller and fix everything. Even sent me an extra work out video. The video itself is great if you still with it.. u will see the results. I have to do it off and on cause sometimes life is just busy. But it is totally worth it. I could tell something was different even after a week. And I an very active!
  105. Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred I thought this was going to be just another fitness dvd… and that going to the gym was sooooo much better. Yeah. Well, let me tell you something. THIS DVD IS DIFFERENT. Jillian Kicked My Butt. At the end of twenty minutes (on Level 1) i was exhausted and sweaty. and two days later, my legs are firmer! The exercises were easy to do, and I totally enjoyed Jillian’s banter. She pushes you through a couple circuts of exercise, jumping jacks, dumbell curls, stationary lundges, etc. YOU CAN DO THIS! She even shows you modifications to help you through some exercises. Exercise doesn’t have to take hours a day – just twenty minutes. I can promise you that Jillian will keep your heart rate up, you’ll see a little bit of sweat, and you’ll even feel muscles you didn’t even know you had.
  106. This is a great workout! Each level (there are 3) consists of a 20-minute workout. I really appreciate Jillian Michael’s 3-2-1 system (3 minutes strength, 2-cardio, 1-abs). It’s tough! I’m only on Level 1. I look forward to working up to Level 3! This is exactly what I was looking for in a workout.
  107. This workout is exhausting, but totally shows progress. I used it to get toned up for a wedding and it worked like a charm
  108. I use this video when I am running short on time. It is a quick workout that works your whole body. She is thorough in her descriptions and it’s easy to follow along with. I’d recommend this to anyone who can be pressed for time as well as those who are just starting out. I use this as a supplement to a longer workout video of Jillian’s. You will see results when/if you choose one of her workout programs.
  109. This is a really good DVD. You will sweat. It’s great if you are short on time, the workout is divided into 3 27 minute sections. Jillian is very motivating. You will not be bored or disappointed.
  110. I bought this dvd because I was “skinny fat” with the pooch on the tummy and all. I could barely get thru level 1. Im now doing my 3rd round of this dvd and if you commit to doing 20 minutes of this 5 days a week, you will see results. Add clean eating and an additional session of cardio a day, the results are amazing. Im now spoiled cause I refuse to do a 1 hour fitness dvd when I can get the same results with a 20 minute workout. This dvd is priceless!!
  111. Great workout!! (This coming from a person who sits in an office chair 40 hrs/week)
  112. I like Jillian and Biggest Loser–but I feel like this workout is kind of boring. All the moves are basic and you repeat them a lot. I wear my ipod during this workout because the music is horrible–and does nothing to get you moving. At first, I only did the first workout, but now I usually do 2 in a row instead of only working out for 20 minutes.
  113. I am a new mom, with a one year old. I wanted something I could do at home in minimal amounts of time. I desperately wanted to get into shape and lose some pounds. I am 20 days into this video. I have conquered levels 1&2 so far. I have to say, Jillian is very motivating and encouraging, but this is not an easy workout video!! I was in tears after the first day and couldn’t make it through the full 20 minutes. But, I kept getting back up to try it again. It took until day 3 when I could make it through the first 20 minutes straight. I do this video 6 days a week, and jump on my elliptical machine when I can. I have only lost 3 pounds, but I don’t care what the scale says because I have dropped a full dress size! My abs look gorgeous, I am losing the “mommy” tummy, my arms are strong and fit and lifting my baby is even easier now. I love what it has done to my legs as well, my thighs are not rubbing together anymore!!!! I recommend this if you want to build up great looking muscles and strength. I am sure if I followed Jillian’s recommended diet on her website that I would lose more pounds on the scale, but frankly, I am so happy with the inches I have lost! Over 2 on my waist alone in just 20 days. Just know it is not easy, but I have found it highly worth it!
  114. I tried this because I liked the fact that it was short-its only 20 mins or so. This workout is simple and the moves are easy. No complicated dance moves or routine, just straight forward steps. However, be advised that this workout is tough and makes you sweat! If you want something that’s uncomplicated and simple, yet effective, then this is the workout for you!
  115. It is annoying that you can’t fast forward the video, but now that I know I have to let it play, I just put it in my DVD and get my shoes on, etc. As for the workout, some of the exercises seem odd to me. Level 2 has a lot of exercises in the plank position. I prefer to switch it up and not be in the same position for three exercises in a row. I really dislike that. There are a few exercises that seem bad for your back, especially if you have lower back trouble. I don’t like the walkout push-ups in level one. If you can’t do a push-up in boy position (up on your toes), it does not seem as effective as just doing modified push-ups. Again, one plank position exercise after another. I don’t like the double-jump jump rope cardio exercise. I jump rope 30 minutes a day, but I don’t come too high off the ground because I don’t think the impact on your back, neck and knees is good. The double-jump roping cardio puts too much strain on my body. What I like about the video is that I really feel that I had a high-impact workout in a short amount of time. I do like a lot of the exercises and maybe I just need to replace some of the cardio ones I don’t like (i.e. doing “butt-kicks” instead of the double-jump roping one). I also love her ab work-outs. I like the exercises she chose and feel like it’s just the right amount. I mute Jillian’s talking and listen to music instead. While some people may need to be pushed to their limit verbally, I prefer a more positive approach. The negative “Hey Buddy, this hurts and I know it” reminder makes it feel more difficult than it really is. Overall, I’ll keep switching around between levels 1, 2 and 3 and replace some of the exercises I don’t like with some I do.
  116. This video is really really boring…there is nothing about it that makes u wanna do it again and again. This is coming from someone who loves to workout. I’m sure it would produce results b/c it is a pretty intense workout, I just couldn’t get myself to do it more than 7 times.
  117. I am not an excerciser at all. When I decided to finally start getting in shape I did my research and finally bought 30 day shred. It has been the best investment of my life! I am 5′4, 190 lbs and wanted a dvd that didn’t require a lot of fancy moves. This DVD is simple moves that make you work. Participating in Jillians workout is tough, but she continues to inspire you as you go through the excercises. Just when you don’t think that you can handle anymore, she pushes – and tells you that you can, that you are worth it. It has only been ten days, but I feel my body changing. I am giving myself 4 weeks at level one before moving on. ( We will see how it goes.) Just like she tells you, if you want a 20 minute workout, you have to work for it. This is the DVD everyone should own.
  118. I originally decided to try this workout because i had plateaued with my gym routine of jogging and weights. The added strength, cardio, and abs moves really switched it up good. within 3 week of doing the dvd almost every day i had lost 3 inches in my waist. The only thing i would recommend to anyone who does this dvd is added some extra warm up and cool down stretches in the beginning and end. I do have tendinitis in 1 of my knees pretty bad and only doing a minute of stretching left me stiff and a little sore. when i added some extra stretching on my own i felt alot better after. Overall i;m very pleased with this dvd and find the workouts very intense, which is what i like. if you don;t like intense workouts you will no like this dvd.
  119. This is what I’ve been looking for I swear. Jillian is awesome and I love this dvd. She combines cardio and strength in a way that has your heart rate up in no time and strength that makes you want to throw the dumbbells at her through the tv in a good way…don’t get me wrong she makes you work. The 20 minutes is intense …it is not a joke. I love the fact that it has 3 levels. I’ve only complete level 1, I previewed level 2 and I said she is NUTS!(in a good way if you want a good workout) She is NOT complicated with her moves she keeps it simple and efficient. I sound like i work for her but I am so pleased!! I never honestly never knew you could sweat (get such an intense workout) so much at home i thought i needed to go to the gym to get that kind of a workout but not with the 30 day shred.
  120. I was definitely searching for a dvd that was more basic cardio, weights, etc…and less ‘bouncing around.’ I’ve completed several ABC boot camps and consider myself to be in pretty good shape with decent levels of endurance. That said, level 1 of this work out was relatively intense for a 20 mintue work out. I enjoyed the quick circuit mix-ups and I’m looking forward to the next levels of this dvd and trying out the 2 other dvds of Jillian’s (No More Trouble Zones and Banish Fat Boost Metabolism). I will agree that the music is pretty lame. I think the Jillian could take the time to show some more modifications for people who want to do the work out but who are limited by bad knees, etc. I don’t mind her ‘bully’ style. I definitely didn’t mind scoring a deal on all 3 dvds for $24 on Amazon with FREE super saver shipping (after I added a $1.50 Degas notebook to my order).
  121. I purchased this DVD along with the Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism and No More Trouble Zones. I must say that I was blown away with the intensity of the workout. Jullian’s advice and encouragement throughout was also very helpful. I am a mom of a 5 month old and had a c-section. Also, I had stayed away from exercises (other than a little walking) ever since I became pregnant. Hence, I was apprehensive about doing this. The first day I did this workout, I was so tired that I almost wanted to puke. However, at the same time, I immensely enjoyed the workouts. All the exercises are to the point and you can feel your muscles getting toned. I have been alternating between the three DVDs for around a month now. It is already showing results. To put things in perspective, even before I started the DVDs, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Though I have a tendency to put on weight really quick and lose it really slow, through proper and balanced diet, I have managed to be on the slim side. So, my problem was not of excess weight but having the fat in the wrong places. My problem areas were my tummy, which with the pregnancy had gotten flabby and kind of loose; and my butt which was again not toned. With the exercises, I have started getting into shape. My pregnancy belly has completely disappeared and my tummy muscles and butt have gotten toned. In fact, I AM IN BETTER SHAPE THAN I WAS PRE-PREGNANCY. I strongly urge ppl out there to do yourself the biggest favor you ever can and buy this DVD (along with the other 2 DVDs that I have mentioned above; Besides it just cost me around $30, which is less than one meal for 2 and this is the best investment that I have ever ever made). Keep in mind that this DVD works not just for women but also men. The days I exercise as per the DVD, I can actually feel happier and more in peace and far more energetic, than if I dont. As I mentioned earlier, I have a 5 month old and I am a working mom. So, that is enough to occupy me the entire day and tire me out so that I am ever so ready to sleep around 9-9.30 pm) Just so that I can exercise, I get up at around 4 am (as that is the only time I get to exercise in one stretch without having to stop to attend to my child). This is how much I love this DVD and would not want to miss it. Try it and you wont regret it ever. Best of luck
  122. I’m not a gym rat but a serious at home exercise enthusiast…She is serious! The best thing about this workout was something Jillian said and it is true… “If you only want to work out for 20 minutes a day and see results, you have to work hard” or something to that extent. She is right and she makes you work hard. But the great thing is it IS only 20 minutes and you are done for the day with great results.
  123. I love this tape, I have already lost inches and weight! I can’t wait to see how I am doing after making it 30 days at all three levels!!
  124. I needed to lose some weight quick so I tried this video. Not only did it help me with my initial goal but I’m still doing it because I love the results!
  125. This is the best of its kind…tough yet achievable goals are set throughout the dvd and for some inexplicable reason this lady Jillian keeps you motivated…. I just wish the dvd had a few more features and guidelines, one tip–if you can handle an 8 pound dumbbell without pain go for a 5 pound one with Jillian, the dumbbell weight can be your doom !
  126. I have never done workout videos before, but I really wanted to tone up and build better upper body strength. I have been doing this every single day and am on my 21st day. I started the first week with level 1, moved to level 2 for the second week and now am finishing out on level 3. I can’t believe how my heart rate gets up and going and muscles burning in only a 20 minute time frame. I’ve defiantly noticed improvements. I don’t have a 6 pack yet, but I believe it will get there! I can see definition in my arms too. I typically do the workout in the mornings and it gives me a great jumpstart to the day. Would highly recommend this to anyone, boys or girls.
  127. Using this video to get in shape after the birth of my son. Love the circuits in this workout…great for short attention spans. The workouts are more like 24-26 minutes long beginning to end, but they’re great. This is the longest I’ve ever stuck with a workout video and I actually look forward to doing it. I saw and felt improvements in a week. I need to add a couple more stretches during the cool down, but otherwise it’s great!
  128. Never mind the fact that this work out is “only” 20 minutes, because it is challenging! You will be ready for a break by the end of the DVD. I am an avid power-walker, walking nearly 30 miles+ each week. I have a decent pace, but I was still not achieving my goal weight. Enter the shred. I LOVE this workout. It incorporates it all-you have your cardio, toning, and ab work. Since I’ve incorporated the shred into my fitness plan, I have not only achieved my goal weight, but I am LESS than my goal weight now. My mommy-bulge is finally going away! I can’t say enough to encourage you try this workout. It’s tough, but worth sticking it out. You do see fast results if you’re consistent. It’s worth every penny, and every drop of sweat!
  129. I have tried numerous ways to loose weight, stuff off of TV, having a personal trainer, running about 12 miles a week (and I am not a runner), dieting in combination with it all… but nothing, this DVD no joke helped me loose the weight I wanted to loose, boost my metabolism, and helped me gain the confidence to stay this way. I am very happy with the results I am getting from the 30 day shred. I have been using it for over 20 days now. I would not consider myself to be very athletic but it has increased my strength.
  130. -Wow!! This DVD is awesome. I consider myself very athletic -played sports all thru High School and College; I run on average 20-25 miles a week, go to spinning class twice a week and do weight training. I tried this workout for the first time today because I sprained my ankle last week and I have to say I am sore (but only my upperbody)! I did the first level and some moves in the second level with 5lb weights. I thought I could waltz through both levels, but I highly recommend you stick with level one first till you feel it has become easy for you. I plan on canceling my gym membership and combining the dvd with my running, and cycling regimine. I think her DVD would be more effective for maintaining body tone then any machine at the gym and it saves time! Then I plan on switching to P90X OR Beachbodys’ Insanity once I get more upper body strength.
  131. This is an intense workout. Level two was challenging, but I completed it. Level three was so challenging I had to stop before the last six minutes. Best combo of strength and cardio I have ever seen. I workout about twice a week normally, but this video made my muscles sore the next day. Also starting to see definition in abs. The time goes by very quickly.
  132. The workout is tough but gets you “shredded”. Jillian is much more bearable than what I’ve seen of her on Biggest Loser. She does flirt with her two girls in the background constantly, which is pretty annoying. I am on day 20 and definitely noticing a difference, though without an accompanying diet there is only so much this workout will do for you. I was 6 weeks postpartum when I started and I also have bad knees, so I definitely made use of her adjustments for those with bad joints or who are really out of shape. This jump started me, but being postpartum I haven’t put in all I could – I think I will wait another 6 weeks and do it again. I recommend this for someone who has little time and is willing to work as hard as they can since it’s only 20 minutes.
  133. This DVD is life changing, and at this price I don’t know why everyone isn’t in shape. I fondly call this workout my 30 minutes of ‘heck’ (keeping it clean.) It’s hard, but I guarantee that you will see results. Without any changes to my diet I am seeing the results. I don’t eat fast food, but I do eat dessert. I’m now going to start cutting calories to really maximize the changes. I had been doing an hour of treadmill and pilates and thought I was in pretty good shape. Not! Now in a half hour I’m getting results like I’ve never had. I started this program 3 weeks ago. I did level one for two weeks and am on my second week of level two. I’m enjoying level two a lot. The exercises are actually fun (love the walk-out push-ups and pendulum lunges.) I also call level two the ’sexy shoulder workout.’ It is intense on your shoulders – but I’ve always wanted sexy shoulders! I’m doing two weeks at each level, then I will rotate through the levels. I can feel different muscles working from level one to level two, so I think rotating after will keep me looking great. The program lets you work at whatever level is comfortable to you. As you get stronger, you can intensify your workout so everyday is a challenge. Again, this is not easy. There hasn’t been a day that I wasn’t out of breath thinking I would die. But with warm-up and cool-down it’s 30 minutes. Everyone can do this for 30 minutes. My advice – don’t give up. When you first start this, unless you are already doing lunges everyday, you will feel pain! Stairs will be a challenge. Trust me – give it 3 days and you will be fine. Keep doing the workouts. Think of the pain as a positive – it makes it harder to get to the kitchen. My sister has a personal trainer and I had to ask her how long before I could walk up and down stairs again. She said 3 days, she was right. Stick with it! Be sure to drink even more water than you usually do. I have never sweat like I do with this video. Water is so good for you anyway. I even see my skin looking better since starting this workout. No excuses! For less than $10 you can have this video and change your life. You don’t need a gym, you don’t need expensive equipment. If you don’t have hand weights and don’t want to spend the money, then use soup cans or something around the house. I’m using half pound wrist weights because that is what I had. I will get heavier weights to intensify the workout later. Half pound weights and I’m getting results! It’s awesome. Commit to the 30 minutes a day and you will be thankful. You will get results. You will feel better about yourself. Nobody is that busy – don’t watch the evening news, learn how to use a slow cooker to cut dinner prep time (just don’t turn to fast food!), surf ebay less, shower faster – get organized and make the time! You won’t regret it.
  134. I have been doing the Shred for a couple of weeks now and it is a great workout without a huge time investment. It works out every muscle group in only 20 minutes and gives you cardio with strength and really builds endurance. The workout is very easy to follow and you can follow either a modified or the full-on workout, depending on your fitness level. I recommend this workout to anyone who is challenged for time and needs a great workout in half the time.
  135. As a busy mom, it’s sometimes hard to find the time to workout. I either walk or jog daily with my kids, but needed something to tone – I found it here! I have been doing the DVD for a couple months now – 3 times a week, varying the workouts (level 1-3) so my body doesn’t get used to any of them. I really notice a difference in my muscle tone, especially in my arms! It’s only 25 minutes and I can do it easily while my daughter is in preschool and my toddler is napping! She is tough, but I didn’t want someone to hold my hand and coddle me through the entire workout!
  136. Really, liked the video. It was a major challenge at first. However, hurt my knee from doing all of the jumping jacks. this video is high impact and I would not recommend it for anyone with any past knee injuries. Jillian is a great trainer and does not make you feel stupid, as some do. The workout was great, but annoying that you can’t fast forward straight to the video, it makes you watch some ads.
  137. I purchased this workout as I needed something to motivate me into getting in shape. I love the fact that there are only 2 people working out besides the instructor…you have two choices, easy or hard..just follow that person. I was getting tired and Jillian was very motivating and so I kept going. I had to push myself to finish some of the segments, but in the end it was worth it. I would highly recommend this workout dvd.
  138. had my second child 15 mos ago. i am athletic, did a sprint triathlon in the summer. Time went by w/o working out. My gut and love handles came back, thanks to night time sweets. i have done this video 3 weeks in a row and man do i see the difference! i looked more toned and clothes feel better on me. i am soooo excited about this video that a bunch of my friends, colleagues and my husband are doing the video. thank you!!
  139. I lost 25 lbs. in a month, changing my diet and using this dvd as my sole source of exercise motivation. I am a very sedentary person, i.e. spending my time at the computer either working or playing mmorpgs (lol) and this is a nice way to start getting in shape. It was VERY hard the first day but the workouts do eventually get easier. As for those people who injured themselves, you’re doing it wrong.
  140. This video is awesome for a quick workout. Shipping was so fast, it was a wonderful surprise, original package, great place to purchase from.
  141. I had knee surgery 3 years ago and this video did nothing but aggravate that weak spot. I tried this workout last night and can’t straighten or bend my knee all the way today. If I had known I’d have to spend 20 minutes bouncing, jumping, lunging and squatting, I would have passed on this DVD. There really needs to be a better description of what moves are in each of the segments.
  142. This works, I’ve lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks, with a healthy balanced diet. She is a very motivating personality. You will move, and you find yourself wanting to do it the next day. I get bored very easily so I bought her other workout DVD also, so it would change up the workouts.
  143. It’s awesome!!!! Great results with a healthy diet and doing the video 5 to 6 times a week. Really gets you into athletic shape.
  144. Good, effective, cheap. It gets a little old after a while, but not any more than any other video.
  145. I not your typical workout video kinda girl but after a friend let me borrow the Shred I had to buy it. This is a great video for beginners because she shows you a lot of modifided movements but it still whoops your butt. I did the full 30 days and I still continue to use it as part of my workout through out the week. I’m stronger, thinner, and cut up after doing the Shred. Furthermore, I’ve purchased 2 other JM videos and found this one to be great to start out with if you’re not a regular at the gym.
  146. I figure I can do anything for 20 minutes. I have run 2 half marathons and various shorter races. I and strong and stubborn and thought I had good stamina. This video kicked me! I did level1 and was dripping with sweat within minutes. The rest of the day I was so sore, in the good way. I used muscles not normally used. I have been using it for 3 weeks. I do level 2 now, but it is tough. I am scared of level3. Try it out. Jillian is inspiring and it is 20 minutes and makes you feel great for the rest of the day. Go For It!!!
  147. My daughter and I have used this 2 times and we love it. No breaks. Its only 20 mins and she makes you sweat and hurt but you feel so good about yourself. We are only on level one but we cant wait to get to the next level. This has been great family time for my daughter and I. We look forward to hanging out with her. And I have to say I am use to having a beer when I get home but now I cant stomach it, so this is a good thing. I can cut out beer during the week. I will be back to let you know the results.
  148. The last workout video I bought was Jane Fonda in the 80s so I was skeptical that a 20 minute workout would be effective but Jillian makes you work out hard and with no apologies. This quick workout is a refreshing change from my usual elliptical or pilates workout and even though it is brief, I am finding that I need to psych myself up to face Jillian because it is not easy. Regardless of your fitness level, take her recommendation and start at level 1. It is a challenge. After 4 times at level 1, I moved up to level 2 and I am still getting used to it. I now understand how Jillian gets those Biggest Loser participants into shape. She is creative and demanding but before you have time to think about how challenging it all it is, the workout is over. For anyone who needs more convenient, home-based workout routines (parents with small children, hectic work schedule, etc.) this is an outstanding option.
  149. I’ve tried other Jillian Michaels workouts & found her personality (giggling & banter) to interfere with the workout. Not so with one. Each workout of the three, 27-minute workouts increases in intensity. Though I typically prefer longer sessions, I always find myself ready for the end.
  150. If any one is looking for a GREAT work out that is short the 30 day shred rocks.
  151. Great total body workout in 20 min. I couldn’t move my arms after the first 2 days, but it got better. I was already a pretty fit person but even Level One was a good workout. I plan to move up to Level 2 soon.
  152. I absolutely love this DVD, and recommend it to anyone that asks about my wourout plans. I didn’t expect the results that I saw from such a short workout, so I was very pleasantly surprised. I’m a busy mom, so I love the fact that it’s only 25 minutes. Jillian keeps things no-nonsense with basic moves (think jumping jacks and push ups). Not only are there 3 levels of difficulty to choose from, there are beginner and advanced options in each level that will help cater to all levels of fitness. Personally, I’ve only made it to Level 2, but in those 2 weeks, I saw significant loss of inches, especially from my waist. If you need peppy music or dancey moves to keep you motivated, this won’t cut it, but if you need a tough workout with fast results, get this DVD.
  153. I love this DVD. Jillian really beats you up, but that’s the beauty of it – and she does so in a way that is motivational and informative. She does a great job discussing the “hows” and “whys” of her program, and she focuses a lot on proper form, which is really important if you want to avoid injuries. She isn’t phony or overly perky – it’s just a straight-up butt-kicking workout. I’ve been doing this workout to shed 20 pounds of excess baby weight, and I’m liking the results so far. Plus, you can’t beat the fact that each workout is only 20 minutes long – even a busy mom can find time for that a few days a week!
  154. Hi, I’m 5′5″ and am 199, and it is a total a** kicker of a workout!! I’ve been doing the elipticle for a month now, starting to see deffinition, but no weightloss! It has to be that I am still eating the wrong things. Yesterday, was my first day on the workout, I bought it 6 months ago, I got on one of my diet kicks, and lost motivation right away, my feet ankles and knees were hurting too bad! But I broke all of those bones 3 years ago, motor cycle accident, thats how I gained 60lbs. Not usually a majorly overweight person. So anyway, I’ve been watching the show since the first season, and I was like all these people are puking and crying over working out, what gives?? So I tryed the workout today, now I know why all the puking and crying?? I was almost there myself. I was on the verge of tears, and was yelling at Jillian, and she just said right at the exact time, come on you can do it!! So I did the workout in the entirety, and I was holding back the puke when I was done. It was so hard, and my muscles were screaming!! I’m going to do this everyday, and take a break on the 7th day. No matter what I feel like, I felt awesome, and full of energy the rest of the day! But i will do this first thing in the morning, not after I have eaten.
  155. IT’S ONLY 20 MINUTES BUT IT IS 20 NON STOP MINUTES. I THOUGHT I WAS “IN SHAPE” ENOUGH TO SKIP LEVEL 1 AND GO DIRECTLY TO LEVEL 2…WAS I WRONG. BEST WAY TO DO THIS PROGRAM IS GRADUAL PROGRESSION TO LEVEL 2 AND 3 BUT DEFINITELY START OUT AT LEVEL 1. I STARTED OCTOBER 1 AND WILL MOVE UP NOVEMBER 1. BUT EVERYTHING JILLIAN MICHAELS SAYS IS TRUE. MY STAMINA AND ABILITY TO MAINTAIN A CERTAIN LEVEL OF ACTIVITY HAS INCREASED AND HOPEFULLY LEVELS 2 AND 3 WON’T BE SO DIFFICULT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS DVD TO ANYONE WHO DOESN’T HAVE A TON OF TIME TO DEVOTE TO EXERCISE YET STILL WANTS TO REMAIN ACTIVE AND IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE. THIS GETS A BIG “THUMBS UP” FROM ME. THANKS!!
  156. It takes way too long from when you put in the DVD until the work out starts. There must be 10 minutes of ‘commercials’ in the beginning! The DVD does not let you fast forward through them either. More marketing than work out. I bought a bunch of Michael’s DVDs and if I could return them, I would.
  157. I haven’t bought a workout tape in over 15 years. Always thought they were lame. Needed one because I cancelled my overpriced gym membership in NYC. Always thought I was in fantastic shape. However, I started on level three and ended up on level two and one. Will need smaller hand weights because I don’t want to stay on level one:-). This DVD is amazing! The choice of levels is fantastic. It is very modern and effective. I am astounded and supremely pleased with this DVD. Jillian Michaels is obviously a pioneer for the future of workout DVD’s.
  158. This is one of the best circuit workout videos ever! I am a stay at home mom of a 2 year old and three month old, so time is not something I have a lot of! Her program is tough, but short. My 2 year old even tries to do the video with me! It’s a tough workout, but it’s a great workout! I just started and Im still on level one, but I have already lost 8 lbs! I highly recomend this video…thanks jillian!
  159. It was cheaper than I would’ve gotten it at target, even though its gotten cheaper– but when I put in the time this DVD IS AMAZING….I did it for 2 weeks when I first got it and I lost 15lbs like instantly and I was only doing it once a day! Plus after I do the exercise- I have MORE ENERGY SOMEHOW! The best thing I’ve ever purchased! ALSO GREAT SHIPPING! It got here in like 2 days! The only kind of stinky thing about the DVD is when you first start you’re not sure how long you go for because she’ll stop and go to her asst. but eventually you get a hang of it.
  160. I like the exercises alright but she goes way to slow and with those seconds she waits to go to the next exercise is not helping. You are suppose to keep moving! She goes way to slow for me in this DVD.
  161. I have been a huge Tae-Bo fan for about 7 years now and got great results with it in the past doing the advanced workouts. After I had my baby, I didn’t work out regularly for over a year and was looking for something to get back into exercising with. This one is SO perfect! I asked for the 30-Day Shred for Christmas last year and did it as many days of the week as I could. On days I had more time, I would still throw in a Tae-Bo or do 2 of Jillian’s Shred workouts in a row. I did each level 10 times until I was done (took me about 2 months). During that time I lost my baby weight and was back in to my pre-baby jeans! Then I went back to work full time. It has been 6 months now and I finally am starting to work out REGULARLY (again). I went back to the 30-Day Shred series because for 20 minutes a day, it DOES NOT waste my time! As a busy full-time working mom, I don’t want to waste my time I could be spending with my daughter on something that is not going to be worth it and, frankly, not kick my butt! This one does every time Afterwards, my body feels almost as “worked” as when I used to do my 1-hour Tae-Bo workouts (which I will still throw in every once in awhile when I have more time because they are fun). This workout makes every spare minute you have count!
  162. There is a great project that this blog is working on. It looks like it will be pretty cool to see how she turns out after doing it. It is this woman doing workout DVDs for 10 days to see if they work. She just started with this DVD. It seems like it will be interesting to see how it goes for her. Here is the website. Cut and paste it into the search bar. [...]
  163. You will wake-up sore and happy tomorrow if you do this DVD today. It is the best 20 minutes you can spend burning calories and “shredding” your body into something awesome. It’s for any level of fitness. I started this when I was 200 lbs (5′2″) and I thought I might die by the end of level one. But I stuck with it and now can make it through level three with only a moderate amount of suffering. The awesome thing is that at every level you can continue to push yourself harder and harder as you get more used to the exercises. Between Jillian and a very deep understanding and respect for calories I’m now 135 (thank you very much). So go on and push yourself, sweat it out and be that person you know you can be.
  164. I am a member of two gyms. I have not been happy with the results I have been getting at either gym. I feel I should have been losing weight guicker. I bought this video in the hopes of seeing better weight loss. I love that it is only a 20 minute workout. Jillian is tough but fun. I love that she keeps you moving the whole 20 minutes and I am not watching the clock at all or having to stop to take breaks and wipe down machines. My goal is to do this workout every other day to give my muscles a break in between. I really think I am going to end up sticking with this workout and getting some of her other workouts and giving up the gym memberships. Keep up the great work Jillian. I am also a huge fan of the tv show.
  165. I am very satisfied with the content of this video. However, I still wait for the excercise video which had a portion to explain the motions but then offered a routine which skipped the small talk. For those viewing it daily, the explanantions and “chatter” make you want to turn down the volume.
  166. I recently decided that it was time to get back in shape, and since it is getting cold outside I felt somewhat limited by what I could do. As not to use this as an excuse to once again not get in shape–there was one place to go…Amazon! When I first started looking for videos I went for the ones with the highest reviews and just bought them….Jillian’s 30 day Shred was one of the highest. This is my first week on level one of her workout and already I have loss 2 pounds (with eating healthy). I always equate lots of sweat with a job well done, so the fact that I am drenched by the end of a 20 minute workout could speak to the fact that I was/am out of shape; but a lot could be attributed to this kick butt workout. After day one workout, start of day two…I was feeling it. I have yet to move up on the levels, however I feel that if I am getting this much of a workout on level one, level two and level three should be just as amazing. I am slightly scared I would definitely recommend this video for anyone who does not want to go to the gym, but rather have their own personal trainer come to their home, at whatever time they choose. Good luck!
  167. I’m not big on work out videoes but I’m loving this one. It’s quick, to the point and works! The work out is very diverse so it never get boring and you can’t beat getting a total work out in only 20 minutes. I’ve read where some of the other commenters have had problems with their knees. I had an ACL reconstruction a few years ago on my right knee and have no problems doing any of these moves. The only pain I have is the burn from making my muscles work.
  168. This is a really good workout and I have had success with it. I just wish it was done by someone else and not Jillian – she is rude and annoying. But my 3 yr old helped me with that one day and muted the TV while I was working out and thats the way it stays. But seriously a great workout. I thought the Boot Camp DVD with Bob Harper was alot harder than this one though so I tend to stick with him
  169. This DVD is really wonderful. In the beginning, I found it tough, but after time, I definitely built up my endurance. Yes, you definitely lose weight and get in shape real fast if you are totally committed to doing the exercise and eating right! I really feel amazing after workout 1. It is cheap and comes with 3 different great workouts. Once you get to know them, it makes it a lot easier. I think this is the best DVD that you know by completing one level, you did a full workout and burnt tons of calories!
  170. Great workout because at 20 minutes, there’s no excuse for not finding time for it every day. I do it first thing in the morning, and then it’s out of the way! It’s tough, but I’ve been doing it for about a week now and I actually feel energized after it’s over. Can’t wait to continue to challenge myself with the next levels!
  171. I have been doing video/dvd workouts for 20 years and have probably 50 different workouts or more. I would consider myself intermediate/advanced in level. I wanted to step up my workout routine last year because I had gained a few pounds over the winter. I started using this DVD and found it was an excellent and challenging workout in a short amount of time. And-I lost those few pounds! I also have two of her other DVDs-all are great!
  172. i have always prided myself on being quite fit, i am a regular runner. i bought this DVD, and OMG, jill totally kicked my butts even at level one. i am getting teh hang of it though and loving it
  173. I went right to level 3 because I am a runner and exercise 5 times a week. I wanted something to mix up my routine and this definitely worked. Gave me a strenuous workout and had me crying uncle. Only downside is it’s only 20 minutes so I augment it with 10 more minutes of cardio. This circuit training or bursts of intense periods of cardio are perfect for jump starting your metabolism. Plyometrics I believe is the term. Get ready…
  174. I agree with those that say this is a good workout. It certainly challenges you. What you might also find challenging is keeping your children’s ears covered while she uses words like “ass” and “bad ass”. I have to work out at home due to having little ones and time constraints. I prefer a workout that does not include language like this. I highly recommend Jari Love, especially her newest Ripped 1000 DVD. Awesome workout and no cussing.Jari Love: Get Extremely Ripped! 1000
  175. I ordered this DVD recently, and have been doing the workouts for a little over two weeks. I’ve already lost 6 pounds and I feel great. I like Jillian’s no-nonsense attitude. I was walking 5-6 miles daily before I started this DVD and had lost some weight but not as much as I wanted. The first day I truly thought I was going to drop dead, but now I can do the advanced version of Level 1 and am progressing on Level 2. I switch between the two workouts so that it doesn’t get boring. The only (minor) complaints are having to sit through the intro stuff every day and the terrible music. But what I do is start the DVD while I’m in the other room changing into my workout stuff, and by the time I come back the intros are done and I can just pick what I want from the menu. The music? Well, I could work out with the TV muted but I like hearing Jillian’s encouragement so I just put up with it. Usually I’m working too hard to mind it, and only really notice at the beginning and the end. All in all, a small price to pay for such a great workout!
  176. This is a GREAT jumpstart to getting in the habit of an exercise routine. For a bit of background, I am 5′5″ and weigh(ed) 244lbs when I started two weeks ago. While I was an athlete and very active when I was younger, about 6 years ago I had a series of pretty serious accidents and injuries (several in cars and was crashed through a fence and rolled on by a horse) that put the screaming brakes on any kind of exercise for awhile. And let me tell you, when you’re used to eating anything and everything in order to fuel an 8-12 hour day of working outside HARD…and then you keep eating like that when you’re doing NOTHING…it’s easy to pack on 60lbs almost overnight it seems. Then moving to work in a hospital (JUNK FOOD GALORE!!!!) in one of the fattest, most out of shape cities in the U.S. for the past 4 years has not helped. ANYWAY, I just wanted all the “beginners” to know where I’m coming from – haven’t exercised regularly or hard (several false starts over the years) in 6 years and have 100+lbs to lose. The only regular exercise I do is walk my dogs for an hour a day. That being said, I found this ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to do the first 3 days…I kept at it as much as I could, but I did take quite a few “5 second” breaks with water. However, by day 4 – YES!!!!!! I was shaking, and I was dying, and after it was over and I flopped on the floor I had 220lbs of worried dog all over me wondering if they were going to have to try and dial 911 As I am on week 2, I have lost 10lbs. The last 2 days I have done away with the “modifiers”…although I am somewhere between the two back-up girls intensities. I have not had any knee problems, and I work out in front of a mirror (yuck) to check my form…but I would think if you are someone who HAS an existing knee injury or other physical problem probably you should be under the supervision of a physical therapist and/or other medical professional instead of jumping around on your own and hurting yourself. As someone who came back from some pretty serious injuries I can say it’s best to have the professionals there by your side. For those of you who don’t have time – HA!!! This is 25 MINUTES…and if you really push, it does work. For myself I cut the a.m. dog walk to a half hour, come home after that and do this (so I don’t get up any earlier), then have started walking the half hour to work (instead of a 20-25 min trolley ride), walking home another half hour, then take the dogs out for another half hour or so. So basically this DVD and adding an hour of walking a day (the new on foot commute) and eating well has lost me 10lbs in 2 weeks. Thank you Jillian for giving me something short enough to stick to every day for the first few weeks, and hard enough to kick some butt and feel changes FAST!!!! Here’s to getting to Level 2!
  177. I have been exercising on and off for years either at the gym or on my own. I did some cutbacks recently and gave up a few of my favorite things, among them my membership to Equinox, a ’state-of-the-art’ gym. I decided to go ahead and buy some DVD’s to workout at home. Since Jillian Michaels is ‘the trainer of the moment’, I bought her DVD’s. Well, what a big surprise! Level One was tougher than I imagined. In this particular one she only uses light weights and the rest is just using the body. I consider myself an intermediate level and found it a bit challenging. Push ups, jumping jacks, and so on. She is just as tough on the DVD as in the TV show ‘The Biggest Loser’. If you lack motivation I guarantee you will get it from her. If you never ever exercised before, this DVD is not for you. My recommendation is to review it first before actually doing it to know exactly what you will be doing and prepare mentally for it. I love it because I am driven and determined to do everything she says to get quick results. My motivation? Admiring the way she looks. If you just concentrate at her core while actually doing the exercises and envision yourself looking that toned, cut and buff, that is enough there to make you keep going. I highly recommended. I actually own the two other DVD’s and they are just as good. Definitely not for the weak of mind.
  178. I have many DVD’s for working out, most of them drive me nuts with overly happy people and LONG workouts with too many variations of moves that could be simpler. No time to get to the gym…20 minutes is all I need now! This DVD workout seriously changes your body. I use it probably 5 times a week and in just over a month I have seen BIG changes in my arms,. legs and mid section. And all in 20 minutes a work out! Amazing! I love that it has multiple levels as you get stronger…but even the level one is so awesome you could do it for months and still see changes! Highly recommend.
  179. Great DVD for a short, intense workout. The only reason I didn’t give this 4 stars is because Jillian’s voice and style just get on my NERVES. lol But as far as the workout and results, I’d say it’s great. It has three levels and I can do #1 but #2 is a challenge. Haven’t even tried #3 yet. I like that it gives me something to work toward. Also, because they have beginner and advanced people showing you each routine, there are almost 6 levels instead of just 3. If you want good aerobics that will get you sweating and have some weight training as well, this is a great choice.
  180. I started this DVD about 2 weeks ago, I have been relentless with these work outs! 6x per week and on my “rest day” I feel so lazy that I’m not working out that day! This is GREAT, I’m starting week 2 and I’ve lost 5 pounds!!! I am ecstatic about that! I can not wait to continue this program, it is tough but it delivers, I recommend this to anyone. The great part about it is there is 3 levels, you can work your way into the tougher exercises when you’re ready, each workout gets your muscles burning, your heart rate up and feeling like you want to collapse, but it really delivers if you stick with it. A+ 5 stars!!
  181. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this DVD. It is easy to follow and totally effective. I have done level 1 about 7 times and I have lost 2 lbs. I can also feel the difference in my muscles. In very little time, I feel like I’ve made huge fitness gains. Jillian rocks! She will work you, but you will feel the burn. I had trouble walking the first week because I used my muscles in a totally different way. Months on the treadmill didn’t even touch how effective this dvd is. Highly recommended. (It is actually currently on channel 1067 if you have digital cable if you want to try it out first.)
  182. In fact, that’s what I say to the tv everytime I finish this workout! Obviously, I love it, but here’s why… First of all, it’s fast, really fast — both the pace and how quickly it goes by! And it’s hard, but I just finished my 7th day in a row, and boy, do I see a difference! I’m actually becoming addicted… Let me just say that I am NOT a consistent exerciser. I go in and out of it, and the older I get (I’m 44), the more I’m “out” of it. But, I’m an “apple” (darnit), and was just watching the tummy getting more and more jiggly, so I knew I had to do something, as the Weight-Loss Fairy has not visited my home lately. Here’s what I did to get motivated: First, I kept looking in the mirror (difficult, but effective), and I put stickies that say “SHRED!” all over — the fridge, the mirror and the front door. Then I did the first one, hurt a lot, then the second one, hurt a little less, then the third one, and hurt no more. On the fourth day, I could really see an improvement in my endurance (no, weight-loss is not the only benefit here)…and voila — I’m doin’ it! (Another tip, keep a running tally of the workouts — it’s a motivator too!) Caution — this is not for the faint of heart — be committed before you buy, but don’t be afraid of it — it’s hard, but certainly not impossible. Hope this helps, and good luck to all!
  183. I have been working out most of my life–2 triathlons, a half marathon, etc–and have had several personal trainers throughout the years. ALL of the trainers tell you to keep your heart rate high while doing strength training and incorporate combination moves in order to burn the most calories. I was skeptical that a 20 minute workout at home could do all the things I’ve usually trained to do in the gym. This DVD really works! I started with Level 1 thinking I would need to go straight to Level 2…boy, was I surprised! Level 1 had me huffing and puffing and sweating! AND I was sore the next day. This is a great alternative for a quick morning workout when I know I won’t be able to make it to the gym. For a REAL challenge, I have done Level 1 and 2 back to back as well as Level 2 and 3…those are killer workouts. If you have a set of heavy weights, have them handy for the chest fly’s in Level 1. Keep in mind, it’s really more like 25 minutes (with the warm up and cool down), but still–25 minutes and your done.
  184. Overall this a good hard workout. The intro, which you can’t skip, is annoying on a daily basis. Who wants to see that every day? That part wasn’t well thought out by the editor. It seems to be a common complaint. I also wish it were customizable like the Cardio Max DVD. Pay attention to form & your own body cues. Basically, hard breathing means keep on trucking, pain means alter your form (& keep on trucking). I consider myself to be in at least average condition(working out 3-5X/wk)and this DVD was harder than expected, which is pleasantly surprising. I was sore. I’ve never actually seen Biggest Loser but I now understand why they lose such weight. I have continued to use the DVD but I’m mixing it up with other workouts now because my knees, although I’ve been careful, are now making noise when use the stairs =:-O. I’m glad I bought this DVD & will continue to use it.
  185. My friend invited me over to her house to try out this workout DVD. Let’s just say after I tried it at her house I couldn’t get home to order my own fast enough! Pros: The 30 Day Shred allows you to work out by yourself or with a group. It’s great for anyone, no matter your fitness level. In the video she has 2 other women doing 2 different intensities of the same moves. I LOVE THIS! It encourages people who aren’t fitness buffs to stay engaged and to keep trying. My friend and I have been doing this video for several months now, 5 days a week. We can definitely tell a difference in ourselves. We love the variety and now switch between the levels. It’s a great 30 minute workout that pushes you, but doesn’t leave you sore the next day. Cons: To be fair I should mention the Cons. You may be annoyed by the intro, but it’s relatively short. You can’t fast forward through it and you do have to watch it every time you start the DVD. The only other con I can think of is that the DVD doesn’t really tell you when to move to the next level. We just did a level for a couple weeks and then moved onto the next level. Overall, this DVD is great now matter what level of fitness you are at. It’s easy to follow; it has variety, and intensity. I recommend it to all my friends and to you.
  186. I had high hopes for this DVD. Level 1 was intense kick butt. Level 2 was a lil lame. I hardly broke a sweat and i went to level 2 the next day. It was way 2.. I don’t know but just not what I thought. I will mix level 1 on this DVD with the Banish Fat Boost Metabolism DVD. Circuit training is a new thing for me so maybe that is why I was a little disappointed. Imma keep @ it till I lose those few stubborn lbs. Delivery was fast. I had just barely logged off the computer for the nite when I had the DVD in my mailbox(jus kiddin).
  187. Let me start off by saying that I’m not actually a fan of Jillian’s personality. I find it a little irritating. BUT damn, these workouts are good for a quickie! Heart-pumping and tough on the muscles. It puts the Firm workouts (which I’m a huge fan of) to shame. This has become my go-to dvd for quick and effective 20 minute workouts! I highly recommend it.
  188. I have been very athletic my whole life but am easily bored by time in the gym (probably why I was always more of a team sport type of gal). I’ve stuck with this workout because it is high energy and goes by so fast that I don’t mind popping it in every day. I’ve noticed a big difference in my legs and abs and can’t wait to see what it does for my performance this ski season!
  189. After reading all of the reviews on Amazon, I was skeptical. How hard could a 20 minute workout REALLY be?! I am 26 and pretty active – an hour on the elliptical several times a week, yoga, kickboxing, etc. I popped in the DVD with plenty of cocky 26-yr old attitude, confident that this would be a piece of cake. After the first circuit, I was a little wobbly in the legs. By the end of the video, I could barely walk from my living room to the bathroom to take a shower. I was soaked in sweat and completely spent. I had to take several “days off” since my leg muscles were so sore. It is an AMAZING workout. Tough, for sure, but as Jillian herself says, if you want to only work out for 20 minutes a day, you have to make it count.
  190. im going on vacation in april and so far this dvd is giving me one of the best workouts ever ! i cant wait to look hot by the pool and with this tough dvd and a decent diet i know i can get there
  191. I’m just getting back into working out after taking several years off after a myriad of health issues and having children. This is a great a simple workout. If you could pass gym class in high school then this is a great workout. Three different level works of basic/classic exercises. Make sure you have two small hand weights for this one.
  192. This is a great dvd, there are 3 levels and I alternate between each level depending on how I am feeling that day. I’ve been doing this one about 3 months and I still sweat no matter which level I choose to do. I like this because she incorporates cardio and strength in about 20 minutes and at the end you feel like you got a great workout in. I alternate between about 6 dvds and this one will definitely stay in my rotation.
  193. I personally have never really liked Jillian…I guess I find her a bit “too much” and a tad foul-mouthed…that aside, I bought this workout because I have a busy schedule and wanted a good short workout by someone whom I knew would give value…I have not been disappointed…I am fairly fit and have been doing Level 1 for a few weeks now (2 or 3 times per week) and I must say I still have to be following Alison for the less rigorous moves, particularly as I have bad knees…I decided this week to move to Level 2, and really got a good workout…injured my knees some, but that was my own fault for not sticking with Alison…If you are strapped for time, but want a quality 20 minute workout, then this is the DVD to get.
  194. I am not one to like exercise dvd’s but had to try it given the great reviews. It is really that good. The exercises are simple but focus on keeping the heartrate up through strength and cardio for 20 minutes = jumping jacks, squats, etc. I have only done level one. Within 4 minutes of starting this dvd, I am sweating hard but in a good way. unlike other dvd’s, it is easy to make it through it because the moves are simple and any time you feel like quitting, you realize you can make it 20 minutes. the time passes really quickly and it felt like it made me more toned after only one day. Jillian is very easy to be motivated by. I recommend two sets of weights for beginners like me, 2 lbs and 8 lbs. I only have 8 lbs and the exercises are too hard to make it through.
  195. Hey I did alot of research on this dvd before I bought it and this is only my second day but I honestly have to say that parts of my body hurt that haven’t hurt since I was born I love the fact that the parts of my body that I really want to improve on are the parts of my body that hurt the most. I will keep my review updated, and as far as knees go I have a horrible knee and I’m not light and my knees arent bothering me, so I would def recommend getting this dvd its definately worth the money. And as I said I will keep my progress posted.
  196. The workouts are definitely good. I like how there are three 30 minute workouts, however, I personally don’t connect as much with Jillian as other fitness instructors on DVDs. Two things that bother me: 1. most of the cardio is high impact, and I don’t think that’s a good idea. 2. There is no reference to how to work this program as a 30 day shred.
  197. It is a great workout. You can up the difficulty through the different levels she offers. I can’t do the jumping-jacks due to a back injury but I love substituting in the punches for them. This workout is helping me tone my tummy and get a firmer, bigger butt(the exercises lift my bottom). It is also helping me with my posture and strength which have both been lacking since my back injury.
  198. I have exercised regularly for 30 years, and I have never worked so hard as I did in Jillians 20 minutes. I started to notice my body changing after week 3. My only problem I injured my knee on day 10, but continued to modify the moves. Tonight I sit here with my leg iced and elevated after having knee surgery. So even with all her comments about being careful with your knees I still got injured. But I am going to get right back at this DVD when my knee heals.
  199. I like the overall workout and the combining of aerobics, strength and abs. Twenty minutes of intensity will get you the results you want. However, I have one complaint. In workout 2, there is an exercise where you go down in plank form and do a sort of jumping jack from this position. I have been working out with aerobics and weight training for over 25 years, so I’m overall fit. This move puts way too much weight on the small calf muscles/tendons running up back of your calf and I know this because I ended up pulling this muscle tonight with this move. The tops of your toes is not a stable enough base to support this move and you run the risk of injuring yourself like I did. Form is very important in weight training and in aerobics. I would nix this move.
  200. I was really suprised when I put this DVD into the player! Level 1 is intense and it only increases from there. I really like the 6 minute circuts and the fact that the only equipment you need is a mat and some handweights. I have been doing this workout 2 times per week over the past month and have seen increases in my cardiovascular endurance and muscle tone. The only caution I have is for people with knee limitations — you may find some of this to be very difficult. Overall, I think this is a fantastic workout video; and who doesn’t have 20 minutes to put towards better health?!
  201. This is tough and you instantly will start sweating from doing this workout. I really love it, and the things she asks to do are fairly easy to pick up, unlike some of the other exercise DVDs I’ve tried (I always feel lost doing TurboJam). Just note that you will need weights for the DVD. The only thing that is s lightly weird for me is how sometimes you see the demonstrators doing the exercises in time with the music, and other times it’s not in time. Really throws me off since I like to do the reps along with the beat.
  202. I adore Jillian Michaels and the work she does for the Biggest Loser so I thought I’d try her 30 Day Shred — YES! This video works the heck out of you, builds your core and almost every muscle in your body — If you are looking to build muscle, this work out is for you – 3 levels, very difficult. BUT if you are looking to simply tone and slim down a little {like lose a jean size} you may want to look for something more cardiovascular focused – With this, I’m only 130 lbs. and all the jumping was very hard on my ankles –
  203. I love this DVD. There are many exercise DVD out there and I tried many, and ended up injuring my knees because the trainer doesn’t tell you how to do the move without getting injured. Since I started on this program, my knees are feeling much better and I feel great! My posture is better, my energy level is high (I have a 6 week baby, go figure) and I feel my body is getting toned. I haven’t felt like that in quite so long!
  204. When I got this video it was a blank disc-I could not get it to play on the computer or in any dvd player. Unfortunately it was a gift so I could not return it. I was very unhappy with this!
  205. I’ve only written one other review for Amazon so believe me when I say this DVD is AWESOME!! I had been going to the gym and power walking for months. During those months, I had only lost 8 pounds. Desperate, I purchased P90X and after a couple of weeks and realizing I needed to purchase so much equipment to complete the workouts, I gave that up. After searching through Amazon Customer Reviews, I found Jillian Michaels’ DVD highly rated…and the price was also right. Another selling point was the only equipment I needed was a couple of dumbbells and a mat. Even though I had never heard of Jillian Michaels (I’ve never watched the Biggest Loser) I purchased the 30 Day Shred, not expecting too much and figuring I’d quit in 2 weeks. Well, 3 months and 35 pounds later, I can say this DVD is all the workout you’ll need. The workouts are only 25 minutes long (no excuse for busy women), but they’re tough. After a couple of weeks and thinking you can’t take anymore, you’ll notice your body changing. After another 2 weeks, you’ll notice the pounds melting off. In less than 3 months, I have went from a size 16 to a size 8 and that’s without any extreme dieting. Again, I must stress, the workouts are tough. There have been a few times that I’ve cursed at the TV, hoping Jillian would hear me and ease up. But after the workout is over (and my heart stops trying to pound its way off my chest), I feel wonderful. Trust me, completing her workouts, especially workout 3 (there are 3 different workouts), is a great accomplishment. I’m over 40 and haven’t felt this great in years. I just gave up my gym membership and have purchased her other DVD, Jillian Michaels: No More Trouble Zones (also awesome), and now alternate between the 2 so I don’t get bored. I have another 20 pounds to lose and I am positive I will lose them with her help. In fact I’ll be purchasing more of her workouts as a Christmas present to myself. You can’t go wrong with her DVDs, especially for the price. And trust me, after a month of working out with Jillian, you’ll be recommending her on Amazon and to all of your friends too. If I could, I would give the 30 Day Shred more than 5 stars.
  206. if you are motivated, you WILL see results with this video. i’ve had it for about a month, and have seen a visilble imprvement in my body!
  207. This is a nice workout video. I just wish it had more ab workout as it only devotes a sixth of the main workout to abs with its 3-2-1 minute strength-cardio-ab training.
  208. Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred does deliver 3 solid workout. PRO’s: There are 3 different workouts which is a good value. The workouts are very challenging! You can get in a good workout in 26 minutes. Jillian gives good tips on form. There is someone doing a modified version which is good for beginners. These workouts can really change your body in a short amount of time. CON’s Jillian uses profanity in these workouts. If you work out while your kids are around, don’t get this dvd. I took off one star because I do not consider this a family friendly dvd. With some excercises, specifically the strength work, there are uneven reps. The music is Boring and out of sync with the exercises. Personal experience: I did have good success with this dvd. However, I must say that I did not look forward to it everyday. I really dreaded it. I wanted to reach a goal and used this dvd to help meet that goal. I did not lose a lot of weight, but I did lose a lot of inches. Regarding the music not being in sync, whenever I read this same comment from people prior to my review, I thought they were being silly. I WAS WRONG! I have several exercise DVD’s and haven’t really “loved” any of them. The only ones I actually like were winsor pilates. I needed more cardio though. So I tried Turbo Jam and LOVED it. What was the big thing that made it so fun for me and made me look forward to it everyday? THE MUSIC! The music is great and the exercises are synced with with the music. Bottom Line: If you want to change your body in a short amount of time, don’t mind boring music and cussing, this may be the dvd for you!
  209. I work out alot in my home gym using DVD’s to get me going. This is the first time ever I heard myself wheezing after the cardio to core section. I think with all her expertise, she could have done better.
  210. This is a wonderful work out!Me and a friend was using it weekly and prior we had been lifting weights, using the tred mill, bike etc nothing compares to the work out this gives you!We wine the whole way through lol.
  211. As Jillian says in the workout, if you want to loose weight just working out 20 minutes you have to really push and make it intense for that time frame. And she’s right, she pushes you but what I like about it is, IT IS doable for everyone. I’m no stranger to working out to DVDs at home with a stack of things I’ve tried from Pilates to I Want That Body, Powerjam etc. I have also done a P90X with Tony Horton and loved it but it takes up to a 2 hr and at least 1hr (you can split am/pm workout times) but I changed jobs recently and unless I get up at 4AM, which is hard after you get home late exhausted from patient care all day and then who wants to work out at 9PM, possibly jepardizing getting to sleep at a decent time, it’s tough and your motivation goes down when you weigh in the pros/cons. Loosing weight takes commitment but so far, I’m about a week into Jillian’s 30 day Shred and I’m impressed all around, but impressed with the results. Jeans are getting looser! What I find difficult is getting back into working out after taking a break for whatever reason you get into a lull and then get motivated again. I slacked off completely the last few months from all but 30 min uphill on the treadmill and it just wasn’t cutting it as I’m getting ready for a beach vacation in less than 2 months and was having a hard time getting back into my P90X routine. I saw I could try this DVD out on Netflix and thought what the hell? why not? and so now I bought 3 from Amazon, one for myself and others as gifts. What sold me is, I hate that soreness you get where then you have to usually take a day since you can hardly walk to recover. I didn’t have that as intensely and I continued to work out even though I was a bit sore and it resolved by day 3 and I really felt my endurance go up. I really liked that and that is mainly due in part to the time frame, it’s just right really. She mixes cardio with strength and she’ll tell you that IS the fastest way to get the best results in the shortest amount of time. And it goes by fast. It’s intense to a degree but like I said, not terribly difficult but effective moves and you do (within days) start to transform but give it all you got like she says. I found if you work thru the soreness (do the modified moves she gives if you need to) it’ll resolve. A lot quicker than a 50 minute upper body routine followed with another 45 minute workout from Tony would just starting out. (I do love Tony though!) I turn into Biggest Loser from time to time and she can come off as a scary but drama for TV is a lot of it I feel, and I do like her attitude towards working out and committing to it and not being a baby about it, and you just have to push thru to that last rep. Dig deep people! Come on it’s 20 minutes?! And it works! Highly recommended if you are not sure what to start with of her series, I also ordered the trouble zones since she got me curious from this DVD…have yet to delve into that workout.
  212. This is the best workout ever. I absolutely love it and do it every morning!!
  213. After working out with a variety of Biggest Loser DVDs for several months, I finally picked up one of Jillian Michael’s solo projects, the 30 Day Shred. This DVD includes 3 levels of difficulty, meant to be worked up to over 30 days (presumably spending 10 days in a row on each level). Once you’ve hit the 30 days, or whatever schedule you work out for yourself, I recommend rotating all 3 levels for a nice variety. To summarize, this DVD is fantastic. Jillian employs a unique 3-2-1 circuit training system – three minutes of strength training (divided into two 30 second / 1:30 intervals), two minutes of cardio (divided into two 30 second repeating intervals), and one minute of abs, which you do three times with different moves in each circuit. Jillian has two ‘helpers’ working out behind her – one who generally does an easier, modified version of a move, the other who does a more hardcore move to work your way up to. Level 1 is a nice light workout that will still get your heart going, but without killing you – a great intro to the system and as Jillian promises, it does get easier with time, helping you to build up confidence in your body. Level 2 is by far the hardest of the 3 levels, with a large focus on the arms / shoulders / plank pose. Level 3, although challenging in its own way with many plyometric / jump training moves, also has some really creative moves I haven’t seen in the other workout DVDs I’ve used, which actually makes it more fun than level 2. Jillian herself is, as always, a great motivational force. She doesn’t talk too much, her instruction is very intuitive to make sure you don’t strain your muscles or perform something incorrectly, and she seems to know exactly when you want to quit. Her ‘bodies’ in the back are a little less inspiring, angling more towards the robotic end of things, but they thankfully show good form, and also a little humanity when they get as tuckered out as you do (PS – keep an eye on Natalie, she cops out on a few moves, which Jillian occasionally calls her out on…you know it’s a tough workout!). And most importantly – the results. This was a game changing DVD for me. I believe all of the working out I’d done leading up to this DVD was the perfect foundation for finally getting results. I’ve noticed my muscles firming up, my body slimming down, and generally just felt healthier and stronger, and very happy with how I’ve progress in general. I don’t do all the tough moves all the time (or in a few cases, ever), and I should probably do Level 2 a bit more often, but I still feel great and happy I tried this DVD out, I definitely want to check out other Jillian Michaels products. A couple of caveats for everyone out there – I feel like this DVD would be extremely challenging for someone who hasn’t been working out on a relatively consistent basis. Having done five months of Biggest Loser DVDs, I was used to the types of moves explored here – lots of squats, lunges, planks, etc. Don’t be afraid to slow down the pacing of this DVD – work your way up in longer than 30 days, I myself spent two weeks on each level instead of just 10 days. Additionally I think if you’re on the older side, this DVD would be quite challenging, as I tried to get my mom to do a Level 3 jumping lunges move and she nearly fell over. Finally, I wouldn’t recommend anything heavier than a 3 lb or 5 lb weight, unless you’re going for a bodybuilder look. As it is, I mostly stick to the 3 lb as I find many of Jillian’s moves are pretty explosive and can strain your muscles with a 5 lb weight. That’s not to say it’s not worth challenging yourself – but be aware that this DVD is not for the ambivalent towards getting fit!
  214. I only paid [...] at Sam’s Club, and I am glad! Bad: Moves out of sync with music- why have the music, then? Needs to work on her language: “No Shame” is heard as “SHAME” by your brain. There are many better ways to suggest modified moves. Abrasive instructor, not in a tough, ‘boot camp’ way, but in a disgusted way. Maybe she is better in person? Boring. Hard on the knees. Warm-ups are uneven- she should do circular warm-ups in BOTH directions. Strange facial expression and tone of voice. Maybe she was bored, too? Not even nice music to make it more interesting. Good: I did feel the workout, she did make us move. But I can do the same by riding a bicycle. Or running. I do like the circuit idea. After all the great reviews, maybe I was expecting too much. I won’t buy another of her videos again unless I can test it first. And what the heck is a ‘biggest loser’? that sounds terrible! I will probably do this a few times, because I am stubborn, but it wasn’t fun.
  215. This will actually make a difference. In 25 minutes. You don’t have to go to the gym, you are done with it around the same time you start to think about how much working out is bore. Bam it’s over and you get to feel virtuous and move on to your life. I’m in pretty good shape but don’t belong to a gym and one of those people who want to get the best workout bang in the fastest time possible. Divided into three levels with each level using interval training, you will notice a difference in your arm muscles within a couple of weeks. I’ve used this DVD during my pregnancy second semester as well, making modifications for the abdominal work because I want to keep my arms toned and work in some aerobic even as my belly gets larger and larger. The abdominal work isn’t great but it’s something and you will certainly find yourself sweating (especially when you are on level two or three). And quite frankly, I really like that Jillian is not a cheerleader type, that she finds the right balance between encouragement and reminding you that you are a wimp if you don’t keep going. Sort of like mom but not as cut.
  216. I had been doing my own workouts 4-5 times per week before I purchased Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred at the recommendation of a fellow sorority sister (who is also getting married soon!). I also have been a fan of Billy Blanks’ Tae Bo workouts, but I had reached a plateau and was no longer seeing any changes. Immediately after the first 2 days of Level 1 workouts, I felt sore all over… in a good way. I found it hard to stay motivated with my previous workouts, but so far I’m 20 days into the 30 Day Shred and just finished my 2nd day of Level 3. The 20 minute workouts are easy to do every day… you can do them in the morning or the afternoon. The great thing about the workout is that it’s built around someone with a busy schedule. After a week and a half, I saw toning in areas that Tae Bo never touched… and the best thing is that I dropped a pant size. I am excited to see what happens when I finish the 30 Day Shred challenge. *** You do need some hand weights (I am working with 3 lb hand weights) and a mat if you’re working on a hard surface.
  217. This DVD has changed the way I look at working out. Not only do I just plain NOT like working out with a DVD for an hour, I really don’t have the time (with 3 kids) for that. This DVD allows me to have a challenging, entertaining (with 3 different circuits, different workouts in each) workout that I can fully complete in only 25 minutes! After reading some of the other reviews, I decided to rotate through the levels. My schedule is this: Mon. Level 1, Tue. Level 2, Wed. Level 3, Thur. Level 1, Fri. Level 2, Sat. Level 3, and rest on Sunday. I love it and am now addicted. I’m literally a slave to these workouts! I try to do them in the morning, but if something comes up and I go all day without working out, I WILL NOT put my head to my pillow without doing this first. It’s so easy to do, because it’s only 25 minutes. There is no way I’d be able to commit to do the same with an hour-long DVD. And with all this, I’ve lost 10 pounds so far, and am only a couple weeks into it (without following the eating plan). I can see the definition in my legs, arms and tummy. I HIGHLY recommend this DVD.
  218. I usually only run and completely neglect abs and strength training. Doing this workout (I’m still on Level One after 3 weeks) made me realize how much I neglect everything but cardio. I’ve already noticed great strides in my body. I can always find 20 minutes in my day which makes it the perfect workout to do from home. Jillian may not be “entertaining” but my focus is doing the workout and what she says/does is little motivation to me. If you cannot find your own inner motivator, you will probably have a hard time running a couple miles on the road, too. That can get boring if you cannot find your inner voice to keep yourself going.
  219. I workout ALL of the time and LOVE all three of her DVDs, 30 Day Shred, Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, and No More Trouble Zones. Seriously, all 3 are awesome videos especially for ladies’ trouble zones. I feel it in my toosh, thighs, and abs. 30 Day Shred especially rocks because if you’re short on time but want to feel like you had a decent workout, you’ll get it. I’m sweating in 5 mins! This video is not for beginners or unmotivated people! Besides the amazing workouts, the price of all 3 makes them even better. I ordered all 3 together on Amazon and got free shipping for $25, what could be better?
  220. This is by far the best fitness DVD I’ve tried. Unlike most workout DVDs, I actually break a sweat while doing this one. I consider myself to be a fit person and run at least a few miles a day, but this is still a great challenge – I’m usually sore the next day. However, it’s not TOO difficult. My roommate, who is just starting to get back in shape, started on level one and she loves it as well.
  221. These workouts are great if you only have 20 minutes. This video has three levels; beginner, intermediate, and advance. The beginner is pretty tough and the intermediate and advanced are probably right on target. I like to work out for at least 40 minutes so I usually string two of these together. These are tough workouts, the cardio gets your heart up and the stength training is solid. The workouts do feel redundant with banish fat and no more trouble zones. If you have those two workouts, you might want to skip this one. This is a similar circuit training workout. Jillians workouts are fun to do and do not require a tremendous amount of coordination which is a bonus for those of us who like to workout early in the morning (I’m a 5:30 exerciser so learning complicated dance routines is not for me). I like a workout I can jump in a do without needing a long learning curve. This is relatively simple to learn but difficult to do.
  222. Jillian kicks your B-hind! Don’t get scared though! This dvd it TOTALLY worth buying, and for 1st timers I HIGHLY recommend it. Plus the price makes you feel like you totally got an awesome deal, which you do!
  223. I am, right now, probably in the worste shape that I have ever been in in my entire life. A while ago I was revved up to start exercizing and losing weight so I started exercising on my own. That didn’t work out too well because I was basically fumbling around trying to create exercises on my own, had no idea what I was doing. Then I went online to try and find a good video that could get me started. I read the reviews for this one and it seemed like it would be a good one to start out on if a little strenuous for beginners. I started it. I did the first level every night for a couple of weeks. It was tough but i could do it. Then I moved to the second level for a couple of weeks. And after I was able to do that level sort of okay I started mixing level 1 and 3, and 2 and 3, doing two levels each night five to six nights a week. It was working even without me changing my diet which I wish I had because I probably would have seen even better results. But the results I did see were that I was gaining muscle, becoming more toned, i was building stamina and endurance, i was able to do more for longer periods of time. However, I ended up injuring myself. I don’t know how exactley because I always payed close attention to her advice on how to hold yourself so that you don’t injure yourself. I ended up hurting something in the back of my left knee. Anyways I was already deep in the program and I didn’t want to give up and I assumed that the injury would just heal on its own. It would just be a matter of time and stopping would have set me way back. I had the discipline to keep going and I was nowhere near the goal I wanted to reach so I kept going even though it was painful. This was in addition to the shin splints that I got which were excruciating and the pinched nerves here and there. So you can imagine how much pain I was in,I was hobbling around most of the time, but I didn’t want to give up. Now, my advice to you is GIVE UP! I can’t affford to go to the doctor but if you can then DO IT. I kept going despite the injury and now it’s worse than ever. I had to stop completely doing any type of exercise that put any level of impact on my knees. Now I can’t even walk around the store for thirty minutes without my knee bothering me. The level of motion is way down in that knee. It hurts to raise it forward, where my thigh is parallel to the ground, or backwards where my lower leg is parallel to the ground. I am afraid that this injury may be permanent and I’ll never be able to do the types of exercises that will help me reach my goal or have the range of motion that I used to have in that leg. I feel like an old lady and I’m only twenty-one! The video is good and it will help you to get healthier and lose weight but be very careful to avoid injuries and if you’re injured STOP AND (if you can afford it) SEEK HELP!!!!
  224. The first time I did this I thought I would die. After a few days it was much easier and I did feel alot stronger. I like that it is only 20 minutes. No excuse for not exercising because I don’t have time. I travel alot so was able to do it in most hotel rooms because it does not take a lot of space. Only thing I don’t like is not being able to skip the intro into the exercises. Others say it gets a bit boring but don’t most exercise tapes after a while?
  225. this workout is really great. i am a runner, and my gym is a 15 minute walk from my house, and with living in cold, snowy denver, it is so great to have an awesome workout that i can do without having to face the snow. jillian is motivating, and i was sore after the very first day! definitely have a good pair of hand weights, i think at least 5 pounds, but 8 would be better to get a nice lifting workout. this video is going to be in my workout rotation from now on!
  226. A couple of months ago, some friends on Facebook posted a status about working out with “The Shred” and I was curious. I had never heard of Jillian Michaels and her 30 Day Shred. I’m on a tight budget so my workouts are based on exercise DVDs and running. I was burned out with running and bored with my Pilates workouts so I ordered The Shred. It took me about 50 days to complete the three levels of the 30 Day Shred but I can see and feel the difference. The exercises are creative and fast-paced. I love this workout because the intervals are short and the workout is complete in 30 minutes. When I first started this workout, I was able to keep up by telling myself, no matter how difficult the exercise was, I could surely keep it up for 3 minutes(strength)or 2 minutes(cardio)or 1 minute(abs). And when you start this workout, there may be some moments when you must focus on the short duration of the set. I’ve muttered some expletives under my breath as I try to keep up with the workout but this is more than okay with Jillian. She gives you permission for screaming and grunting to get through this workout and although you may not need this encouragement, Jillian’s motivating energy feels authentic. This is absolutely the best 30 minute workout I have ever done.
  227. This video is great for cardio. The use of weights simply adds to the heartrate increasing.. and yeah, here and there, one can feel tired muscles, but this will not really build any muscle that is not there. If you have great muscle tone but are carrying extra weight and need to strip off some fat so that muscle shows, this will absolutely help. If you have poor muscle tone and need to really work the muscles to get them to show, then this is not for you. Jillian makes a statement in level 2 “These ‘lat rows’ will really give you that V look in the back”. Well, as a former personal trainer, competitive bodybuilder and powerlifter, I must say, “THAT IS A LINE OF CRAP”. Light weight lat rows will NOT create a V in the back. Heavy weighted lat pull downs will do that.. Also, she talks too much while the others do the work…. too much “if you want to do a 20 minute work out then you need to…..” and she just keeps saying it… not motivating, just annoying. The girls in her video did NOT sculpt their bodies from this workout, no matter what she tries to tell you. Jillian’s ab portion of this is a joke. I do my own instead and am dying in that 1 minute ab portion.. hers are just a waste of time. Also, some of her moves are bad for knees and back…… if you have any disk problems, beware of the “plank” moves = just throw something else in there. Also, she says that biceps must be worked with legs to get the max calorie burn. Bull crap. If you work biceps right, you can get ur heart rate up higher than her entire video can… its called HIIT method and its a killer… but it can be done…. She makes too many bogus statements for my liking… so muting it is the best option. this is very good for beginners or for people who want a quick supplement when they’re really busy and can’t get to teh gym…but it will not shred anyone.
  228. I have owned this DVD for over a year now and it is my favorite workout DVD of all time. It seems that most people I know also own it – I am always meeting people from all walks of life that own this DVD. It reminds me of the Jane Fonda craze of the early 80s! Why is it my favorite workout DVD of all time, among all that I have owned over the past decade? That’s why I’m here to write this review. Jillian Michaels has always been an inspiration to me. She is a strong, tough, and beautiful woman and is about my same age. So, when I heard she had a DVD, I bought it. There are three 20-minute workouts on the DVD, intended to be done 10 times at each level. By the third workout, you are doing mountain climbers and plank! I found that Level III wasn’t significantly more difficult than Level I, so some users may wish to alternate the workouts rather than proceed sequentially. Supposedly you would be “shredded” if you did all those workouts in a month. How I admire anyone that can actually do 30 workouts in 30 days! When I was kid-less, I would be doing other types of workouts (dance rehearsals, long walks, other vids) – and now I just can’t find the time every day! However, I am still trying to do 10 of each workouts even if I can’t make it every day. Currently I am up to #9. It’s hard work! If you keep at it, you will find yourself getting stronger and your form improving. The theory is that you do 3 minutes of strength, 2 of high-intensity cardio and 1 of abs. In the strength portion, you alternate between a heavy-duty single-muscle strength move and a move that combines upper & lower body. In the cardio portion, there are usually 2 cardio moves, like jumping jacks and jump rope and you alternate every 30 seconds. My favorite part of course is abs – you get to lie on the floor and do some variety of crunches. It keeps your interest with the variety, doesn’t wear any particular part out too much, and you know that if you don’t like it, it will be over soon at least. Jillian’s pitter patter is motivating. She tells you that you have to work out hard to get results, that you can do it if some of the people she trains on Biggest Loser can do it, and that you’re going to get results if you keep at it. She also has Anita demonstrating an easier version and Nathalie doing a harder version, so that within one workout, you can adjust to your abilities. The workout is great for anyone, but it’s particularly great for moms. I used this DVD frequently before I was a mom, stopped while I was pregnant (too high impact), and started again once I was given the go-ahead to exercise. The 20 minute workouts are perfect to fit in during your child’s naps. It can still be difficult to find that 20 minutes, after all, you still have to get your workout clothes on! My only criticism is the LONG introduction at the beginning of the DVD that cannot be skipped. Typically I turn on the DVD player and the Wii, do my Wii Fit Body Test, and by the time I’m done, the DVD is ready for me to choose a workout.
  229. i am not much for workout dvd’s because i lose interest quick. I purchased the jillian Michaels 30 day shred dvd about 8 days ago. i started using it everyday since then. I LOVE IT !!! it keeps you inerested and wanting more!! Each level is a 20 minute workout, with warmups and cool downs, it’s about 27 minutes. i felt it the first day !! after day 3, i was so sore from my arms, legs, and abs. i also saw and felt a difference, my body was toning up !! it truly is a great workout. it has three levels. I alternate levels each day. i am never bored and she’s a good teacher. i just finished ordering the Jillian Michaels complete workout 5 dvd set and i cant wait to try them. i have been recommending the 30 day shred to my friends and family. i have also noticed that i have more energy and feel better. before, i would be dragging out of bed in the mornings. But since i started this workout, i am up at 5:50 am everyday and i dont feel tired at all !! i am doing it straight for the 30 days so i will post an update on my weight loss once i complete it.
  230. Love it!! especially since it was in 3 segments, I could sneak in a workout while the baby was asleep. Def tough but not imposible, I was kinda out of shape before trying this video so it was rough but I did it and it was great!! Especially level 3, so don’t be afraid by other rec. saying its not for begginers just give it a try and stick to it and you will see a difference!
  231. To be fair, I didn’t actually do this workout. I do not like being forced to listen to someone ramble on every time I play a workout video. There is no way to fast forward through Jillian’s introduction. I usually watch a workout video before actually doing it. Because Jillian’s introduction is longer than I care to endure every time I put it into my DVD player, I decided to discard this tape. I own the “Banish Fat Boost Metabolism” tape, but was bored with it after about a month. I am athletic, so it is, at times, difficult for me to find challenging workouts that will hold my attention for an extended period of time. The concept seems great, but I don’t have the stomach for the long intro.
  232. I have been using the video for almost four months. I alternate with both the Boost Metabolism and No More Trouble Zones (also with Jillian). This are seriously good workouts. I have recently moved to Level 3 and it kicks my butt. I started this dvds two months after having my second baby and I have lost all the baby weight plus 12 lbs and I eat like a pig. No, I don’t eat meat or drink soda or go out for fast food, but my caloric intake is high and I do not watch calories, carbs or fat grams. I lost 1 lb a week while eating french fries, mashed potatoes, Hagen Dazs etc,. and I am a tiny, thin person! I would highly recommend this dvd and her others if you aren’t the type who likes to starve themselves and you still want to lose weight. I do not modify the exercises though and this probably contributes to the weight loss. My one critique is that her best (hardest) workouts have a lot of what she refers to as “jump training”. It is NOT easy and I imagine people who are heavy set are going to have a hard time with these moves. If you do not like high intensity jumping, stay away from Level 3 of this dvd (unless you do the modifications which also lessen the workout). All in all, if you are serious about losing weight and want to be sweating and huffing and puffing at the end of 25 minutes, this is the dvd for you.
  233. I am a newly engaged bride to be who is looking to shed a little bit of excess weight and tone up for my big day. I have taken classes similar to this in the past, but it has been a while since I worked out regularly. As a grad student with two jobs, finding time to go to the gym is not always possible. With this DVD you can squeeze a workout in just 20 minutes and go right on about your day. The Cons: The intro is long and boring. I wish I could skip past it. Pros: *Intense workouts that really get you moving *Only requires hand weights (and a mat if you have hard floors) *Doesn’t require much space as most movements are done in place. I have a tiny 1 bedroom apartment and had no problem finding enough space. *She has a very realistic and motivating attitude. I just love her style. * WAY more effective than 30-60 mindless minutes on a machine at the gym. I actually felt sore after this work out and was working up a really good sweat. Be prepared to need a quick shower after this workout! All in all, BUY THIS DVD! I’m only on level 1 and it kicked my butt! I have no doubt that it will provide me with enough intensity between the three different levels to help me tone up for my big day!
  234. I am in the best shape of my life… and it’s all thanks to this DVD! You can’t beat working out only 20 minutes a day and getting the AMAZING results this DVD will give you. For all those who don’t know Jillian from The Biggest Loser, she’s tough but she does get results and keeps you motivated at the same time. I have been working out for years, swimming 4-5 miles a week and might lose a lb here or there… but this DVD really helps you build lean muscle and burn fat FAST! It really works but you have to put in the effort. If you do it everyday, I’m sure you will even see results by week 2… which was super motivating for me. All my friends and family have noticed the amazing changes and how quickly it all happened… even my mom and sister have started it too! I have told everyone I know about this DVD and so many of my friend’s are jumping on the Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred bandwagon and getting the same great results. It’s for sure the best $[...] bucks I’ve spent in a long time!
  235. This is one of my favorite videos. I feel like I get a good workout in the 20 minute workout. You feel sore the next day. My kids enjoy doing this with me. My only complaint is that she says “ass” and I don’t approve of my kids using that word. I can’t say as I have lost any weight but I am stronger and more toned than before doing this video. It has 3 levels to work through so once you get good at one you move up to a harder level. If you want a good workout and don’t have a lot of time to do it, this would be a great one to do.
  236. I use this video in rotation with other things. I disagree with Jillian that this could be used every day for 30 days — it’s too much muscle work to do every day. If she had three Level 1 videos, three Level 2, and three Level 3 for us to rotate through – I think that would have been better. I like that she has us do jumping jacks and push-ups because those are things I’m too lazy to do on my own. I have to change up some of the exercises, like the side lunge because it hurts my knees (knee surgery twice on the same knee). I also change up a few other things – if you’re feeling pain you’re either a) not doing it correctly or b) that exercise just doesn’t work for your body. There’s nothing to be ashamed about if you can’t do plank jacks because it hurts your back …. change it up so that you’re doing SOMETHING even if it isn’t exactly what they are doing on the video. I will give her this much, she says that this hard core video is for people who are willing to go HARD for 30 days to see dramatic results. I for one can’t promise 30 days straight to begin with, but also my body needs breaks so I do other things in addition to this video. I was pleasantly surprised that she didn’t curse or “get in your face” if you will. Instead she coaxes you along and pushes you to do your best and not give up. I agree that the intro is annoying, but for whatever reason, my DVD player allows me to skip over it and others’ say theirs won’t. I haven’t tried Level 3 but I’ve done 1 and 2 at least 7-10 times each. I’m impressed with my leg muscle and abs – but I can’t say that I’ve noticed that much of a difference in my arms. Overall, for $10 I think it’s pretty decent and I use it often.
  237. I am a pretty good runner (avg 5-6 m per run), and these are really challenging and fun. I am not into major “routines” and these are basic, simple to follow and yield results. I truly push myself @ level 2 and find it really challenging to complete level 3. I do 2 & 3 now back to back and I am soaking wet. It has truly helped my overall fitness level and my running has never been better! Thanks Jillian!
  238. The workout is amazing! Jillian is helpful in regards to proper technique, and I have yet to not be sore the next day. The only complaint I have is that you can not skip past the introduction segments (plural). Once you put the DVD in, you have about 4 four minutes to go off and do something else, because you can not escape the pumped up music and instructions. If at all possible, leave the DVD in one player at all times, to avoid this. I can’t wait to get to day 30 and see if I am more toned!
  239. I bought this dvd after reading in Self magazine this month that Carrie Underwood uses Jillian’s dvds. I wanted to find something that incorporated weights because I hate to use weight machines at the gym. I work out 4-5 days and let me tell you, I did this dvd for the first time yesterday and already feel it!! That was only doing it on level 1! I actually struggled with reaching up and putting the dishes away from the dishwasher. Her work-outs go so quickly because you are working so hard, and you do feel the results. I can’t wait to see how I feel after 30 days since I have felt such results after one day!! Buy this dvd!
  240. I just received this DVD in the mail yesterday. I went for a one-hour powerwalk, cooled down a little, did this DVD (which I just finished) and am completely worn out but I’m extremely happy. I like how Jillian explains how to do the exercises and how not to do them so we don’t get injured. I also like how she shows the modified version and the full-on version. I have barely any upper body strength and could hardly do the modified pushup. Also, my back hurts when I do some of the ab exercises. That is no fault of Jillian or the exercises. I know that by sticking with the program that in time I will get that upper body and back strength and will be able to do the exercises full on. It was a tough workout and I am one that can be lazy when things are tough but I’ve learned that things worth having are often tough to get. I trust Jillian and am looking forward to her kicking my tail again tomorrow and the next day, etc.
  241. I am a new mom and rarely find time in my schedule to work out. The fact that I can get a butt-kicking workout in 20 minutes is awesome. I really like Jillian, I know she comes off kind of harshly, but that is what makes me want to work harder. I think her comments about working hard actually motivate me to get my butt in gear. Just when I started getting comfortable with level one, it was time to move to level two and now I am a whole new kind of sore! This is a great workout for those who have little time, but really want to see changes in their body. Prepare to be sore. I lost 5 pounds in the first week!!
  242. I purchased this as a gift for my daughter. She is extremely happy with it!
  243. IF you want to get a sweat wrenching workout which targets every muscle in a short amount of time then you have come to the right place. I am at an intermediate level and find level 2 and level 3 are right for my needs. Time goes by fast and the sweat starts pouring pretty much from the beginning. If I have time, I do level 2 and level 3 together and feel like I got the best workout ever. Give this one a try for sure..you won’t be disappointed.
  244. This workout video is great. It is not really for beginners, which I am a complete beginner, but you can do the modified exercises and do it every other day or every two days with one day off to work up to it. Jillian has almost literally kicked my butt with this dvd. I am only on level 1 and man is it tough. BUT, if you want to actually make a difference this is the way to do it. Just be sure to push yourself but not too hard. I already broke a blood vessel in my calf from going past my limits, this is a combination of that and not eating right. Be sure to get all your nutrients, especially vitamin C. All in all, great workout DVD, motivating and very challenging.
  245. I’m 26 years old, 5′9″, and 170lbs, carrying about 20 extra lbs of fat. I’ve been trying to lose weight with diet and riding a recumbant bike for a few weeks now, and haven’t seen marked improvement, even thought my body feels better when I’m not eating fast food . Because I love The Biggest Loser, I decided I’d let Jillian kick my @$$ for 30 days and see what happens . I just started last night, and it owned me in the face! (In a good way.) I was sweating like I was going to die within the first 5 minutes–I’ve never done another workout that was so fast and made you work so hard. However, the time flew by because Jillian changes up the exercises throughout. Jillian has you do 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of ab work for 3 cycles. It’s INTENSE, but she motivates you along the way. At several points I thought about quitting, and Jillian shouted something like “Only 3 more!” or “I know you feel like you’re going to die, but YOU CAN DO IT!” I loved it, and it kept me going. This is my second day, and I’m excited to work out again tonight! My entire body is sore, but in a good “I just kicked my own butt” kind of way. Everyone can do this kind of intense exercise, as The Biggest Loser proves–we just have to be brave enough to start! I’ll check back in and let you know about my results as I go . Good luck, fellow fat-burners!
  246. I will start off by stating that I am 24-years-old, an ex-dancer, and I’m about 15 pounds overweight. The level 1 workout kicked my butt and made me almost unable to walk for two days! During my first workout, I had to stop several times for a breather and a drink of water. However, after only a few days, I can already feel the workout getting easier. I am only using 3 pound weights right now, but it’s enough to make my arms sore. I would not recommend this DVD to anyone who is extremely overweight or out of shape. It’s not a beginners workout at all. The level 1 workout is very fast paced and requires some endurance to do the entire workout without stopping. Overall, I’m glad that I purchased this DVD. I definitely think that it will give me the results that I want!
  247. I have been doing the 30 day shred for the past 4 days and I must say this is hands down the best exercise dvd I have tried. The first day on level 1 was a bit tougher than I was expecting and lets just say that the next morning getting out of bed was just as difficult. I have never had such a quick and effective workout as this one. With a two-year-old, a husband and being a full time student, a 20-minute workout is very doable. Thank goodness for a dvd that kicks your butt in under half an hour. Everyone has 20 minutes to spare!
  248. Ok first I love Jillians attitude and personality! She seems like a down to earth person I could get a drink with! but thats not whats amazing whats amazing is that I am 26, 5′2 and have been fighting with 25 lbs for the last 4 years of my life. I lost some one and when they passed i went to 155 lbs!! and when i am happy with my weight I am 115- so i was around 145 after the mourning (May) and I decided i was losing my weight! I had exercised before and like violet zaki and kendall hogan and a few others but i stumbled on Jillian!! I did one level one workout of the 30 day shred and was hooked!!!! you sweat you really sweat and you push yourself harder and harder each time! by august i was 120 – I have such a a better body, and am eating healthier and have awesome muscles and feel great. I am still doing it not everyday but 3x a week i do her workouts . if you get your diet together this sis a sure fire way to tone up those muscles and shed that extra fat!!!! I lOVE JILLIAN for helping me get my body back!
  249. I’m going to be brief because I dont want to repeat what so many have said: This workout is amazing. I long for the day that I can get to Level 3 where my wife is! Hard to think that you can’t even finish Level One in 20 min without feeling like you’re going to die..but when its done you feel great! I didn’t give this a perfect score for only one simple reason: Very frustrating DVD controls.. At least on my players (2 diff ones) you MUST listen to her intro and a few transition screens before getting into the workout…Its only for about 2 minutes but if you are anxious to get this workout done you have to wait EVERY TIME. Reminds me of a Disney video….those of you who have them know what I mean! Simply enabling the ‘top menu’ button to allow people to go right to workout 1,2 or 3 would earn this a perfect score. Happy shredding!
  250. I did both this workout along with the metabolism boost dvd this week. I have no doubt these programs will burn calories and help you lose weight. However, my doctor (who is a marathoner and weight lifter) practically jumped down my throat when I told her that I did these programs b/c I have a history of knee injuries. These dvd’s are for advanced exercisers. Try to build up knee and leg strength before trying these. I injured myself after doing too many jumping jacks (yes, she actually incorporates those) and jumping squats (you have to turn 180 degrees believe it or not). If you do not land in a stable position (and this is a big “if”) you can seriously injure yourself. Hopefully I can lose some weight over the next few months and work my way to this, but for the time being I wanted to put out a “Buyer Beware” on this dvd….it’s a fat blaster….but with a very high risk of injury. It’s not worth injury if you ask me. Back to the FIRM…great results using cardio/weight interval combinations but no risky jumping moves.
  251. I started this DVD a few weeks ago. I am a former military member and I don’t remember basic training being this hard. You will probably feel sick and want to die the first time you do level one because I know I did. You do get used to it after the second or third time. I kept myself from weighing in every day and cut it down to once a week. I also measured parts of my body where I want to slim down. I didn’t lose weight right away but I did remeasure myself after a week and I lost from 1/2 to 3/4″ in most areas. I am no longer getting asked “Are you pregnant” anymore and I am more toned. The trick is to drink water and stay away from sugary drinks. Also, I went to WebMD and used the meal planner and created my daily meals so I can stay within my calorie limits. You have to fight for that body! Also, doing the workout with music only helps–when I hear voices talking to me it breaks my concentration. It is an awesome workout, especially for the price!
  252. I usually like to exercise outdoors, but with the cold weather this winter I couldn’t bring myself outside. I was looking for a good exercise video and bought this because of the great reviews. I am only on day two and the Level 1 work out is hard, but the fact that it is over in 20 minutes encourages me to try again. The moves are not hard, but the way it is put together gives you a great workout!
  253. This is a great workout DVD. I sweat so much after workout for just a little while. The only downside is that every time I want to workout I have to sit thought a very long DVD intro which I can’t skip.
  254. I love Jillian Michaels so I thought I’d give this a try. I expected the exercises to be tough but still do-able. I knew I was in trouble when she started with the jumping jacks. I am overweight and I have arthritis in my knees. Jumping jacks are completely out. There are knee bends…and a lot of up and down that take you from a standing position to the floor and back up again. If you have really bad knees like myself there are not alternative movements on this dvd that will keep your knees in the no-pain/no damage zone. After the first work out(the easiest), my knees swole and hurt for over a week. I let one coworker borrow this and she had similar problems with the knees. She is somewhat overweight but not very much. I let another coworker borrow and she was able to do the excercises, although she said they were tough. She is very young though and not at all overweight. So I’d say if you in pretty good condition to start with this DVD may work for you. If you have bad knees, try another DVD! I’m looking for one myself! Sidenote: The other exercises on this DVD are fine(tough but do-able).
  255. Hi everyone! This is my first review and I must tell you that this is the most challenging workout that I’ve tried in a really long time. I’ve tried just about everything from;Turbo Jam, Hip Hop Abs, The Wave, Barry’s Boot Camp, and the Fluidity Bar to name a few,all of which are good workouts with Turbo Jam being the best. The big difference is that Jillian’s workouts are alot shorter and just as effective as these which have much longer workout times. As a someone who’ll readily admit that I’m a infomercial freak, this is really a great workout that will keep you interested and challenged. I’m someone that loses interest really quickly if it doesn’t provide a challenge, and quick results. Jillian’s workout delivers on both counts. After 5 days with 1 day of rest I’m still on level 1 but the change in my endurance is two-fold and just seeing myself really progress from barely being able to make it through the warm-up to being able to keep up with Anita (beginner) without stopping is really amazing!! If you’ve done the workout you know what I mean. I’m so proud of myself! I do it in the mornings before going to work which I find really motivates me to not cheat so much during the day. I got this for $9 at Walmart, its the best $9 that I’ve ever spent. Take care and happy working out! This was so fun.
  256. Love it! This workout kicks butt and definitely gets results, and all within 20 minutes. You will work hard, but can’t beat it!
  257. Overall, this video does its job. I felt like I had a workout. Beginners shouldn’t shy away from this video. Yes the first couple times it is really difficult, but doable. More advanced people,I think this could still work for you too. Personally, I don’t do well with doing the same thing over and over, so doing the same video for 30 days isn’t for me. For me, I switch up videos, doing this video four times a week.
  258. Jillian provides an intense, but powerful 20 minute workout (really closer to 28 minutes with intro, warm up, and cool down) that is easier to fit into a busy schedule than a long run or machine-based workout at the gym. It also provides some variety to a workout routine, as there are 3 workouts on the the video, each one being a good workout in and of themselves.
  259. it’s a great workout, everyone agrees. she knows what she is talking about and that’s very helpful! i am frustrated by the DVD setup. you can’t advance to the main menu and just start working. you have to listen to the same opening spiel every time, it takes too long. plus, i agree, she could use some work on her cues to move from one thing to the next. i don’t stare at the tv while working out. i am sticking with it, though. i’m aching but it’s great!
  260. I got this video on the date stated. I am very please with the video. It is an excellent purchase. And it was delivered directly to my front door….you gotta love that.
  261. I purchased this video so I could work out at home those days when I couldn’t get to the gym. I’m in my twenties and on the chubby side, so I’m not used to working out. The exercises are a bit too hard if you aren’t already in shape, which causes frustration instead of the desire to keep going. I wanted to feel energized but instead I felt worse than when I started, so I put the dvd away and decided that the gym was better for me, since I could start slow and work my way up. My suggestion is, if you’re overweight and want a video you can keep up with, THIS ISN’T IT.
  262. If you want a no-frills, straight-to-the-point, kick-butt workout, buy this DVD. I don’t need to repeat what over 1,000 other reviewers have said. I tried this DVD and was hooked immediately. It’s easy to use and a very intense workout. My boyfriend tried the workout with me one day after hearing me talk it up, thinking it was going to be easy (his thought process was something like, he’s a guy, I’m a girl, how hard could it be?). Ha! He was hooked as well, and bought his own copy the next day. This DVD needs to be included in everyone’s exercise collection.
  263. Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred I just did the level 1 workout for this DVD and it was SO hard!!! I hate to exercise but really want to get in shape for a friend’s wedding this summer, so I purchased this along with one of the Biggest Loser DVDs. Wow. I was dying after the first 6-minute circuit and it only got harder for the last 12 minutes! Jillian really packs it in–you have got to be motivated or pretty fit to stick with it the whole 20 minutes. But, like she says, you have to work to get results. I thought this was a really good workout for people who are serious about getting fit. Make sure you have a soft surface (like a mat) and some light dumbells before starting this DVD.
  264. If you are pressed for time, but still want to get a thorough workout in, then the 30 Day Shred is for you. It will kick your butt! It works all areas and you feel as though you have worked out for an hour, when in reality it is only 20 minutes. This workout is great to mix in with running, biking, tennis as it will create muscle confusion, especially if you rotate the workout levels 1, 2 and 3. Jillian Michaels Rocks!
  265. My fitness level is moderate -ran about 21 miles a week. I did this workout and thought it was great. It really help define my upper body and core and in a 20min workout. You can’t complain.
  266. thought this was great, i started doing this after having a baby, and i was about 60lbs overweight. i lost 17 lbs in the first month. i also liked that i was able to fit a quick, effective workout in 25 mins or so with 2 small children. with a short intense workout like this, i was able to lose weight quickly without going to the gym for a boring treadmill run, and i saved lots of money. i have several other of her dvds and they are great too.
  267. I recently brought this video because between happy weight, cruise weight, holiday weight etc I needed something that will get me in shape and affective. I am extremely busy, haven’t worked out in a long while and with my schedule it is very hard to go running in the early morning and I get home by dark to run in the evening. I def. do not want to waste money at the gym right now due to my schedule and commitment, so when reading the reviews about the 30 Day Dhred I figure I will give it a try. After my first try at the video I was very surprise. I use to run track a long while ago but still can handle some workout to a certain extent. There are 3 levels to this video and all are 20 min long. I thought I would make it through the 1st level easy… man was I wrong. I was so impress how the 20 min workout Jillian did completely worked all areas of my body WELL. I know how to workout and know when I get a good workout. This video is a challenge and gives an excellent workout in your own home. Its great for crazy schedules, bad weather etc. If you push as hard as you can to make it completely through you will feel like you came from the gym (probably a better workout then you give yourself at the gym consistently). Its a challenge but be consist and you will see results. VERY IMPRESSED. Going on my 3rd week and my body has already changed and I am still trying to complete level 1 without stopping.
  268. This is one of the best workout videos I have ever done. In an attempt to not have to pay the crazy high prices to have a gym membership, I have been on a mission to find good workout videos that give me a solid, good overall workout and that can help me to lose weight and inches. I have had a lot of trouble finding videos that are hard enough that they actually help lose weight, but the 30 Day Shred definitely does that. I have not done the program for 30 days in a row, but I have on a few different occasions done this video 4-5 times a week, every week, for a month or more, and let me tell you, the results are huge! I’m sure they would be even more substantial if you did the video every day, but my muscles need a break every once in awhile. All 3 levels of workouts are tough. Each workout has 3 circuits, each having 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of abs. So, the workout itself is 18 minutes, and the total time is under 30 with a warm up and cool down. That makes this video even better – you get an awesome workout in a short amount of time, meaning no one should have an excuse not to try it out. I highly recommend this product – it is definitely worth buying if you’re looking to get in shape and lose some weight.
  269. I’m in, I’d say, moderate physical condition. I don’t do a ton of working out, yoga 2-3 days a week, chasing kids everyday. Not in particularly fit condition by any means. I got this dvd today and did level one and while it was tiring, I recovered quickly and feel like I could do it a couple times a day. I can see how this could get boring for more advanced people, but I think it’ll work to get me in shape to go to Jamaica in a couple months.
  270. Overrall I loved the video. I definitely felt like I was working out. the only annoying part was that there was a lot of get up/ get down movements; One min. your doing jumping jacks the next min your doing push ups. Also I advise you to switch up between the levels. One day do level one the next day do level two. If you dont i garuantee you’ll get bored fast. Other than that, this dvd is definitely a must buy.
  271. I find myself telling people about this workout all the time. It’s the most intense one I’ve ever done, and the best part is that each one is packed into 20 minutes. It’s great on busy days. There are also two levels within each of the three workouts, so I can choose the intensity I want that day. The combo of cardio, strength, and weights is awesome, and I can see and feel a difference in my body right away. Highly, highly recommend it.
  272. This is easily my favorite workout DVD. I use to be addicted to P90, but forget it. Tony Horton is covered in dust. I do this workout 5x a week, it’s excellent.
  273. Great workout. Music is really boring, though. I go back and forth between Level 2 and Level 3 because parts of Level 2 are actually harder than Level 3.
  274. Coming from a person who has never used a workout video- this one is amazing. I absolutely love it! It isn’t annoying or boring at all. Jillian is down-to-earth and explains each and every move. Before when doing workouts, I would worry about injuring my back. But she is so specific and touches on every issue that I know I am doing it correctly. This video works your arms, abs and overall physique. I use it everyday and each day I am sore and seeing changes so I know without a doubt it is working. The best part is the video is only 20 minutes! 20 minutes of great workouts that keep you going and before you realize it, the workout is over and you feel great! So yes, I would recommend this to anyone; experienced or not. FYI- the video is a little different in the fact that each time you turn it on you have to listen to a 5 min Jillian talk and there is no way to fast forward it. It stinks but I usually turn on the player and do other things before coming back to the video to workout. Just a heads up.
  275. I have used this DVD for the past 7 weeks. I love it. I began switching between levels immediately, although only between 1 and 2…I added Level 3 after a month of levels 1 and 2. I find this to be a great quick workout. If I only have 20 minutes, I do one workout. If I want more, I do two workouts and I have even attempted to do all 3. I’ve only done this twice. I began with 3lb weights and now use 5 lbs ones. This video can be adapted and made more difficult by using heavier weights. I have already dropped 2 pants sizes, lost several inches around my waist, thighs and arms. I’ve lost almost 15lbs, but I haven’t missed a day of exercise….except one and that was a big mistake. Don’t think that you need to rest your body….you don’t. Just modify the moves to accommodate your muscles if they are sore. I missed one day and the next day I thought I was going to die. Toughen up and don’t stop. Don’t give up. This DVD is worth the $9.00 and you will notice a difference in your weight and body toning. I will be working out with Jillian for as long as I can. It is definitely worth it!!
  276. I HATE working out. I am 23 and used to be a gymnast and cheerleader in high school, so I was in naturally decent/good shape. Well now I’ve discovered the “joys” of grad school and 24/7 studying. My body has taken a serious hit. I’m still fairly petite but all of my muscles have lost their tone and I’ve gone up a pants size or two (in six months…). I decided it was finally time for a change. I bought this one (30-Day Shred) along with No More Trouble Zones and Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. I have yet to try Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism, but if it’s anything like the other two, I will LOVE it. I don’t really like cardio, but Jillian works it in with the exercises so that you barely know you’re doing it until you’re about ready to collapse. I find it much more enjoyable than running on a treadmill. Every muscle in my body HURTS. I haven’t been at it long enough to see results, just a few days, but I’m already hooked I highly recommend this DVD (and the other two) for anyone!
  277. I don’t know if I will lose weight on this program, but it’s an intense cardio work-out with some strength training. Jillian makes suggestions to guard against injury. The DVD also offers three intensity levels. I’m hoping it works….I’ll update this review in a month. You don’t need anything but the DVD and two hand weights….so, it’s easy to get started.
  278. Wow I hate working out but I love this video! It’s honestly the best workout tape I’ve ever done and the best part is you can see the results quickly. It’s worth it to power through because it’s only 20 minutes. I think Natalie from the video wishes she was doing the modified workout
  279. This is a great video if you’re short on time (30 minutes overall)and it will kick your butt but I don’t think doing it for 30 days straight is good for your knees. I am in good shape and walk 4 miles regularly during the summer. I didn’t have knee pain until I did this for 2 weeks straight. My muscles did get toned (a little too much-adding bulk to my butt and thighs) but the 2 minutes of cardio in between the weight training is very high impact- jumping jacks, butt kicks, jump rope in place. And that was just level one. There are three levels. You are supposed to do level 1 for 10 days, level 2 for 10 days and level 3 for 10 days. I think it would be more effective when alternating with a cardio DVD. Great DVD overall but be careful.
  280. I bought 30 Day Shred and Banish Fat, Boosh Metabolism after reading the reviews and trying some of the exercises for free from (…). I love JM’s no-nonsense style; she really is a personal trainer! She explains the logic behind all the moves. If you like variety in your exercises and get bored easily, this is definitely for you. I hate exercising, but realize that its a must if I want a healthy toned body. Both DVDs deliver variety, interval training, modified moves for beginners, and results. I only started them 3 weeks ago, so can’t say much about losing weight yet (plus I haven’t stopped eating sweets and carbs, although I have upped my fruit and veggie intake) but I feel that my endurance is getting higher. The strength training in 30 Day Shred is a bit tough to do for beginners but stick with it. The cardio in BFBM is awesome! I did 20 minutes the first time, and the full DVD the second time. By the time I had finished, I was purple in the face and totally soaked! I highly recommend JM’s DVD’s. Some caveats/tips to get you thru it: 1. wear thick soled trainers while doing these exercises to protect your knees from all the jumping moves. 2. Put on some of your favorite dance music while doing the exercises. After listening to JM’s instructions once or twice, you don’t need to listen to her but just follow her while listening to your favorite tunes. 3. Do keep imagining your body as you want it. 4. I keep repeating to myself: Transformation requires sacrifice and effort. This helps me pull through when I’m desperate to stop. 5. You don’t have to do the entire DVD in one go. Take it slowly, according to your fitness level. Also, its ok to cheat and not do all the exercises in one circuit if you can’t. For instance, if a circuit has 6 exercises and by the time you come to the 5th one and are exhausted, sit out the next moves for 10-20 seconds then join back in. I used to do Billy Blanks Tae Bo, but left it pretty soon. It didnt inspire me to go on, it didnt offer variety in moves, and BB doesnt explain the logic behind the exercises. But I definitely recommend JM’s DVDs. Go get them, and you won’t regret it!
  281. Love that there are 3 different workouts to chose from, ranging from easy to hard. Great how, if u keep up with it on daily basis, u can progress to harder levels in no time. Easy to work in before work. With setup, warmup, workout, cool down, only 30 mins. if u need something quick and effective this works!! make it an everyday routine!!
  282. I injured my knee after the third time of doing this workout. I’m at a healthy weight, and have exercised with cardio/weights (firm dvds) 4-5 times a week for years. I know how to do the exercises (jumping jacks, lunges, etc) properly on Jillians dvd. Soon after doing this workout my knee swelled up and I had shooting pains in my right knee for six weeks. I had to sleep with my right knee bent at night because it was painful to keep it straight. Finally, I went to the doctor and had to take 800 mg 3 times a day for six days, as well as ice/heat. I’m grateful I didn’t tear my muscle. I think I’ll stick with my firm dvds (never had an injury with this series). I wish Jillian wouldn’t state, “I have 400 lb people that can do jumping jacks and so can you!” Well, even at a healthy weight high impact exercises can hurt people. She needs to let people know they should modify the exercises and do the best they can (maybe she can update this dvd and add more lower impact exercises). Bob Harper is excellent at letting you know to modify if you can’t do the exercises. I cannot do this workout again for fear of hurting my knee again. By the way, it is all healed now and I’m doing my Firm strength/cardio workouts again.
  283. A great workout all around. I love getting a complete workout in little as 20-30 minutes. Jillian motivates you to give it your all through the whole DVD.
  284. I was recommended this video by one of my girlfriends and was a little skeptical at first but thought I would give it a try. I am not a huge work out person and had not worked out in a long long time prior to trying this video, so I was of course a little bit nervous. But after doing just the first week, I was hooked. It is an amazing workout and is only 20 minutes a day which is perfect for my lifestyle! It has definitely made me want to work out more and has encouraged me to want to get healthier!
  285. I bought this video aftering trying a few others that I felt silly doing the more dance type dvds that you don’t want to do infront of others. After watching the DVD first to get a view of the moves I was eager to start. I found that even though this DVD is only 20 minutes it’s a workout. I use to go to the gym 5 days a week and never got the results I wanted. Now after 2 short weeks I can already tell this is working. I have lost a lot of fat off of my body mostly my thighs and tummy area and feel great. I am now starting level 3 so we will see what happens. All together so far I have lost 6lbs with only using this DVD and diet. I consume around 1300 calories a day. I love this DVD so much that once I am confortable doing level 3 I’m just going to start doing two level at one time. Oh yes and my husband is now working out with me as well and he loves it too.
  286. This DVD is great to have around the house. I couldn’t see myself doing this DVD religiously, but it’s a great compliment to any workout program. I personally loved the 30-day workout BOOK by Jillian, but those routines would usually keep me at least 45 minutes at the gym. This DVD is nice because you can do this at home within about 25 minutes. It’s a tough workout and will make you feel good after you complete it. Great price, it’s a must have!
  287. This is a great workout dvd. I consider myself a very fit individual. I used to run daily, but for various reasons I can no longer excercise outdoors. On top of that I have two little boys that take up all of my time so I really am short on time. I was very hesitant about a 20 minute workout because most have you workout then rest and are half filled with stretching and taking your pulse. This was a solid 20 minutes of kickin your butt and no rest. I actually felt like I worked out – and worked out hard. I vary the levels and mix it up with my elliptical. My only complaint (which I think was mentioned in other reviews) is there is a lot of talking and general stuff before you get to the main menu that you can’t forward through. If you are like me, and really in a time crunch, I recommend starting the dvd, then get changed into your clothes, get out your workout gear. By that time the main menu will be up and you can start..
  288. This is a GREAT way to burn calories an get in shape! No matter how in shape you are, this DVD is bound to burn some serious calories! Each workout is only 20 minutes, but you will be tired and worked out by the end! This is a great way to get fast results!
  289. This is a brilliant workout. I thought I was fairly fit until I did this!! Was stiff for a few days after I started it but could see and feel the results within a week. Definately worth the money
  290. I just bought and did my first workout with Julian and I am very excited to continue with this. I have to say that sadly I didn’t make it all the way through my first time because I am out of shape but she is very motivating and thats exactly what I need. This DVD consists of 3 levels of 20 minute workouts. You start at the beginner level and when you are ready to progress, you move on to the next level. I used to use Hip-hop abs before, and it was a joke compared to this. Jullian utilizes every opportunity to tone you up in the least amount of time here. It is very high intensity but it can be done by anyone who is serious about losing weight, even beginners, and you can’t beat 20 minutes a day!
  291. Others have said it, but the intro is extremely annoying. It turns a 20-minute routine into 25 minutes. Someone wasn’t thinking when they made this.
  292. I am on day 6 of the 30 day shred. I did 2 days on level 1 and am now up to level 2. I can already notice my jeans starting to sag and my lovehandles melting away. I am significantly toned all over than when I first started. I started as a size 10 and although I am on a strict low carb diet as well I am already down to a size 8. The workouts are pretty difficult but they’re 20 minutes so if you can hang with it until the 20 minutes is over you will be so glad you stuck with it. I’m looking forward to level 3 today and to see my results at the end of the 30 days!
  293. Received quickly. Got started right away. Within 2 weeks, I noticed a huge difference in how toned I was and how my clothes felt. Great workout video. I would recommend highly. Only takes 20 minutes a day and really gets heart rate up and works all muscles!!!!
  294. I was looking for a quick cardio/strength combo to add to my normal routine of running, power-walking, biking. Wow, this one is amazing!!! So glad I bought it and I’m telling all my friends about it.
  295. I used this tape because it has 3 levels from beginner to advanced. I found my body got stronger, leaner and fit. This tape is a great way to start/kick-off an exercise routine. When I started level 1, I sweated and didn’t think I could keep up. Now, I am looking for more! Level 3 is exciting and provides a great workout. If you are limited on time, this tape is ideal. It gives you a core workout in 20 minutes. If you plan of continuing with her tapes, it also helps you learn the moves. I use all three of her tapes to keep variety. Good luck everyone! The lbs. are coming off – thanks to Jillian Michaels and her quality workout videos.
  296. Today is my second day and I’m definitely feeling it! I’m overweight by 100 pounds and with a history of illnesses/diseases through my family (depression, diabetes, overweight, cancer, epilepsy, etc), I want to get healthy. I’m on 15mg of phentermine and it’s doing wonders of my appetite control and I’m eating at exactly 1200 calories a day, if not a little over. But what’s a pill going to do if I don’t watch what I eat AND put exercise into my life? I can definitely take just 20 minutes out of my day to do it. I used to do P90X but I missed three days and it threw me off so I stopped. Outside of P90X, I do “Just Dance”wii, “DDR”xbox ps2, “Biggest Loser”wii, “Wii fit” wii. It has helped with a lot but.. GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY.. One hour of p90X would leave me feeling nauseous* at the very end because it was so hardcore-ish. But only 20 minutes of Jillian Michaels leaves me nauseous* at the end! *Nauseous in the sense that my body is being worked out in a way that it hasn’t been worked out before! The 3-2-1 method she uses is pretty brutal but boy do I feel it in my legs and DEFINITELY in my abs. When I lift my hands/arms to do anything, I definitely feel it too. They have a girl doing modified moves and a girl doing advanced moves. One moment I can do the advanced moves but the second time around, my legs are on fire so I switch back and forth from the modified to the advanced. As Tony Horton would say: “Quality versus Quantity”. If you gotta take a break because your posture is slacking and not doing it right, take it so you can do it right. And Jillian has levels. Levels 1, 2 and 3. Unless you are Jillian Michaels herself, please start at Level 1. Atleast look through the video. I’m expert on DDR and everything but being this is my second day, I wouldn’t even THINK about going to Level 2 until I’m ready. I also bought Biggest Loser Yoga Workout as a big warm-up because that’s definitely going to tone out and learn how to balance this body. With doing Jillian Michaels, I will lose my goal weight on time, if not a lot sooner than planned. And look pretty darn smoking hot too! If you are looking for a good workout, this is DEFINITELY a good one. You WILL need a mat and some light weights. I usually use 10 pound weights but I would recommend 3-5 pounds. Unless you want to take it up an extra notch.
  297. This video works great. I have felt my body changing and it doesn’t require a lot of time, just a little over 20 minutes. The way this video is set up is great. There are three levels and each level is set up in 3 segments: 3 minutes of toning, 2 minutes of cardio, and one minute of abs. It works everything in a way that you don’t need to spend forever at the gym. My body starting feel toned and more fit not long after doing this video.
  298. this video is very good with a combination of dieting you will see results within 30 days. I love it
  299. A lot of my friends like this video and I got it to try. If you like a lot of cardio and jumping then you will like it. I personally don’t like Jillian Michaels’ personality so it doesn’t work for me. It doesn’t motivate me and I was kind of bored with it. I only did level 1 though and it wasn’t as organized as a 30, 60, or 90 day program that spells everything out for you. It all comes down to personal preference but personally I don’t prefer Jillian Michaels. I really like Chalene Johnson though and love doing her workouts. I guess that’s why there are a million different workout DVD’s out there. Pick the one you like.
  300. If you have a hard time getting into the groove of exercising, this is the best exercise dvd and exercise workout for you. More cost effective and more time saving than the gym. I got this dvd as an Xmas gift from my husband and started using it on January 8 on an every day basis. Had to skip some days due to guests and what not but I finished Day 30 on February 14. Jillian Michaels will work you in those 20 minutes, yet she’ll give you beginner options and great instructions on how to use proper form in exercising. These are things I rarely got while going to the gym. Plus, the privacy at home and being able to workout at your own time is priceless. I’d spend 3 hours or 2 hours at the gym sweating doing cardio and strength training, but I always felt I wasn’t getting anywhere. With the 30 Day Shred, I knew I was getting strength, cardio, and core training in 20 minutes, and I felt a burn and sweat all the time in such a small amount of time. The 30 Day Shred will build up your strength and jumpstart you into doing more intense workouts. I just started Jillian’s Banish Fat and Boost Metabolism, and it is harder. 30 Day Shred made it easier to transition to something more difficult. You burn up more than twice the calories of the 30 Day Shred (over 500 calories).
  301. This DVD is completely unbelievable. I have used exercise DVDs in the past and have never seen very dramatic results, so I was skeptical of this one. But after seeing it discussed on the weight watchers message boards and seeing so many positive reviews, I had to try it. Make sure you buy some hand weights at the same time! (I use 3 pounders) I’ve been using the DVD about 4x a week for four weeks (I use it as cross training in a 10 mile race training schedule) and HOLY COW. The results are ABSURD. Within a few days I started seeing and feeling increased muscle tone in my arms and abs (the abs are particularly notable, because there is only 3 minutes of direct ab work in the DVD). Now several weeks in and my arms are noticeably muscular and my abs are hard and much flatter. For only 18 minutes of intense activity, this is absolutely the best workout bang for your buck. I am a believer.
  302. I have tried several video workout routines. I like to change things up every once in awhile and I have to say that Jillian’s is one of the best I’ve tried. It’s basic but it really works. I also enjoy her encouragement that you “don’t get results for free” and “don’t phone this in” makes me laugh because its true. You got to work it!
  303. So, I get to say “Jillian kicked my butt” like everyone else, but 30 days of the same routine is boring. I wouldn’t do it on the treadmill, I don’t like doing it at home. You put yourself on autopilot by the 3rd time you’ve done the routine. You are dripping buckets of sweat, but you have memorized the “motivational sayings” and the order of the routine. You would with any DVD. I know, I have some I’ve done for over 5 years! I think the fact that these are less than 30 minutes really hits it home that they are boring you just can’t wait to get to the end of it. If you want something fast to add into an existing routine a couple times a week, this is the one though. In my 30 days of using this consistently, my arms and shoulders toned like I’ve never been able to do before. My legs did not see much improvement, I did not notice any weight or measurement change. I’m OK with that! I will bust out this DVD when I can’t get to the gym because of a sick kid or a scheduling conflict. It is fast and easy to fit in after kids are sleeping or during a nap time. I don’t think you will meet anyone that says this is an easy routine, but I’m sure you can find many that think it is boring! I say buy it, but don’t think you will want to continue to do it regularly after your 30 days of shredding is up.
  304. Although I could not do even the beginning work out to start with, I stuck with it, and have definitely seen a difference in mainly my strength. I would strongly suggest the 30 Day Shred for anyone who seriously wants to get back in shape. Its short, can be done in a small space, and it works.
  305. Clearly, this DVD doesn’t need any more positive reviews, but I can’t resist. The circuit training format means you are moving on to something else just when you think you’re going to collapse. Jillian is motivating, informative, and easy to follow. Of course, you have to be in pretty good shape to keep up with the full routine, but you can always take it slowly like I am, being as I am getting on in years. Twenty minutes and you’ve had a terrific workout even if don’t do everything perfectly. Highly recommended.
  306. I bought this dvd along with the Skinny Bitch workout dvd and Carmen Electras stripper fit video. I can’t stand the others but LOVED Jillians. She is to the point and gives you options so if you are not ready to get into that low squat yet you can work your way to it. I’m going to purchase her others because I loved this one so much. Go Jillian!
  307. I did this DVD ONCE! A shoulder injury which had been resolved is now back in full force. I regret ever doing this DVD. I will now have to deal with recovery of my shoulder again. This $8.00 DVD is going to end up costing me plenty in therapy visits.
  308. I love this workout. The first couple of times it took some getting used to but it gets easier each day you do it. Your endurance will increase. Jillian really pushes you. It’s like she’s in the room with you motivating you to reach your goals. It consist of 3 20 minute workouts. I’ve done 20 minute workouts before and never have felt like I worked out enough. I’ve done 45 minutes of cardio on other workout dvd’s and still felt like it was a waste(too many breaks). Jillian’s workout makes use of every minute by combining strength, cardio and abs. After I’m done with one of her 20 minutes I feel like I’ve really accomplished something(breathless and covered in sweat). Once you start a workout – it’s over before you know it. Keep in mind she’s has personally trained 400 lb people so if they can do it so can you. I highly recommend this dvd.
  309. THis lady knows what she is talking about. In those twenty mintutes my tongue was coming out of my mouth of how tired I was from that work out. She really knows how to make the most out of those twenty minutes. It is a great workout dvd and I use it, when I am lazy to go to the gym. When there is too many people at the gym or when it is raining, or when I feel like I did not have a great work out at the gym. So buying this DVD was worth it.
  310. Jillian’s workout is great, you will see results and no doubt she gets the blood pumping fast. I love all of the arm workouts and abs, etc. And this is the best of her workout DVDs (I own the others). HOWEVER, watch your knees. It seems she should have had some sort of low impact version. I’m in my early 30s and I don’t enjoy that aspect, so I can’t imagine how it feels for someone who is older. Jillian likes to jump around a lot, and I would modify all of these excercises so that you don’t injure yourself. Just my two cents. But worth a try. After awhile though, I also became bored as she has stage 1, 2 and 3. So really, you’re doing workout 1 for awhile before you get to level 2, etc. If you’re looking for a good workout, I recommend Jackie Warner’s “Training with Jackie” — she’ll get you toned without destroying your knees.
  311. PROS: - Each level is broken down into different intervals, which makes it seem like you’re working out for way longer - You work all muscles in different movements [i.e. level 1: push ups in the first circuit, then chest flyes in the last circuit] - For 20 minutes, you work up a sweat really fast, perfect for people who have little time and/or want quick workouts that deliver - You don’t need that much space when and it’s flexible in terms of the weights you use and modifications CONS: - YOU CAN’T SKIP JILLIAN’S INTRO COMMENTARY. Not a problem when you’re only working out for 20 minutes, but it’s a big reason why I didn’t give this rating 5 stars - I don’t really feel the ab workouts because when you’re trying to follow along you’re having to catch your breath at the same time from the cardio [haha]; I recommend Turbo Jam: Ab Jam because it’s focused solely on abs and it’s a different pace than what Jillian uses - It becomes redundant when you have to do the same level for days at a time. Jillian also talks a lot more than really doing the workouts. BASICALLY, this dvd is totally recommended, AS LONG AS YOU STICK WITH IT. I usually stop and go using this dvd because I do my own personal workouts, but I did feel stronger and saw more definition in my upper body after finishing all 3 levels in 15 days. And don’t quit after the first day! It gets easier, and you don’t have to move on to the next level until you’re ready.
  312. Not as good as I hoped it would be. I heard a lot of jazz about it, but I was sort of under the impression there would be 30 days worth of work out variations and there are only three different workouts so that was a bit of a disappointment. It gets boring after the first two really. If you are in decent shape already, while the cardio aspect of the lowest level gets your heart pumping and gets you breathing heavily, it’s not much of a work out. My arms were slightly sore for the first two days, but that was it. My abs didn’t feel a thing in workout one. From what I’ve heard, they won’t until workout three, but I am so annoyed with it already I haven’t made it that far. Because it was not as effected as I had expected.
  313. No better workouts than JM! Totally amazing. I’m converting everyone I love to her workouts. It’d be awesome to have her as your own personal trainer but this is the next best thing. Maybe even better if she’s too intense for you
  314. I bought this video to get out of my tae-bo rut, which I have been doing for a few months. I thought I was in decent shape until I met Jillian. I was panting with level one and I have seen results in less than a week. I had to buy new shoes to deal with all the high-impact but it is so worth it. My goals were to get fit and toned with losing some weight as a bonus. I am so pleased with this that I am taking it on my seven day tropical vacation (no kidding-my husband volunteered to carry my weights in his bag)! I am working out between levels one and two (two is tough). I was too busy dying to notice the bad music and I wish that you could fast-forward through her intro but not a big deal. If you want to see results in only twenty minutes, get this video. It is worth the small price tag.
  315. Currently I’m on day 21 of this workout, which is the first day at level 3. I have seen amazing results. I’m definitely ready for swimsuit season. With two children I had difficulty finding a workout that fits into my schedule and produces results in a minimal amount of time….but this workout is perfect. Jillian really pushes you to your fullest potential in only 20 minutes. The levels get progressively more difficult. I rave about this workout to anyone that is looking for a new routine. LOVE IT!!!!!!!
  316. I am 50 years old and considered myself in pretty good shape. My 25 year old daughter bought this dvd and insisted I buy it. I will be forever in her debt. When I did the level one, day one of this dvd I thought I might die. It was tough, but 20 minutes of anything is doable. That is the beauty of this dvd…20 MINUTES!! I can make no excuses for only 20 minutes out of my day. I am now on day 32 of the dvd and I can actually say I look forward to working out. I only lost a couple of pounds, but I was not overweight to begin with, but…INCHES… that is the payoff of this workout. I have lost inches where I did not think possible. Also my arms look incredible. I was getting those flappy arms that everyone says comes with being 50. I didn’t think I could change that, well I did. LOVE THE WORKOUT!!
  317. I started this excercise program 6 days ago and I have never felt better and I am noticing that my clothes are fitting better. I agree it is a tough program to start. To all of those who are whining about it being unsafe, if you pay attention, you can do modified version of the excersises, not that complicated to figure out. This way you wont hurt yourself. I do a lot of the modified versions as well as the advanced, and I never felt better. Jillian is awesome, and the show proves how good she is. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a good workout. If you’re lazy and complain about it, then it’s not meant for you.
  318. I love both Jillian and Bob. But I decided to start off with a Jillian DVD because I tend to skip workouts when my schedule gets really busy. I was very active in my teens and 20’s, now I’m nearly 40 and working 10-12 hour days, so I need energy and motivation. Also, I’d love to lose about 10-20 lbs and tone up. I thought since I can be a “Big Baby” when it comes to working out, so I needed someone like Jillian. Well, after two months of working out with Jillian 2-4 times per week, I’ve seen results. My arms, abs, and butt seem to be shaping up nicely and I don’t see those “muffin tops” poking out of the waistband of my jeans. Even my friends and co-workers are complimenting me and telling me I look like I’ve lost weight. Just want to add: 1. I DON’T weigh myself. I’d rather see results in the mirror or purchase clothes 1-2 sizes smaller. Call me strange or whatever, but I don’t like to weigh myself because I’ll become obsessive about it. Trust me, if you work out with Jillian on a regular basis, you WILL tone up and lose weight. 2. I did the Level 1 workout for the first few weeks. Later, I added Level 2. But I haven’t yet done the Level 3 workout. I love Both Level 1 and 2 and I find this is challenging enough for me. I work up a good sweat, get my heart pumping and feel GREAT afterwards. 3. I wish the Cool Down for each level was a bit longer. My muscles still feel a bit tight afterwards, so I do my own stretches for a few minutes after the DVD is over. and 4. The Music during the workouts is a bit BLAH. Wish it had better music (like the music used on the “Menu” part) throughout because that helps motivate me. Overall, a great workout DVD with workouts suitable for all fitness levels. Jillian is NO NONSENSE and she will push you! She says something like, “If you want a 20 minute workout, you’re gonna have to earn it!” and she means it. But you will feel stronger and more energized after just a week or two. There are some days when I do Levels 1 AND 2 back to back because I enjoy it so much! Yes, you will need hand weights, but they can be purchased cheap online, at Academy, or Target. This DVD is the best purchase I’ve made in a LONG time. I will continue to purchase more “Biggest Loser” workouts and alternate them. Last week, I purchased one of Bob’s DVD’s, Biggest Loser Bootcamp. Thanks to Jillian and Bob, I feel and look better than I have in YEARS!
  319. I wanted a good workout DVD to compliment my regimen and for the days I can’t fit in a whole cardio workout. I work out 3-4 days a week so I’m pretty fitness minded and not new to working out. I was a little skittish about ordering this one because I thought it might be a little bit basic for my level of fitness but based SOLELY on the feedback others have left I decided to give it a try. All I can say is O M G … it totally kicked my butt and I only did level 1 ! At the end, I was crawling on my hands and knees. This is NOT your grannie’s workout by any means ! It’s for anyone who want to seriously get in shape. Jillian Michaels is definitely no-nonsense but you can also take it down a notch and make it more basic by doing alternative movements and aerobic levels if you are just starting out. Somehow Jillian manages to capture an all-encompassing, total butt-kicking workout for every level regardless if you have never worked out in your life or if you are at the top of your fitness game. I also really loved that the only things you need to workout to this DVD are hand weights and a floor mat (optional if you work out on carpet). I loved it so much I bought two more in addition to this one, and I can’t wait to see what Jillian’s new Yoga Meltdown workout is all about too. Definitely give her a try if you are looking for a great workout – you will NOT be disappointed ! Oh ! And I should mention the lightening-fast delivery too. “Anticipated SHIPPING date” was March 1st but it was at my door for DELIVERY on February 26th, only 1-1/2 days after I ordered it. I was pretty amazed it got here so soon. All the way around, it’s a straight-up bargain.
  320. Whoever said that level 1 was easy must be an Olympian, a personal trainer, or someone who’s already in excellent shape. I watched this DVD first before doing it (to make sure that I could actually do this), and Jillian did make the work look easy. Until I started to do the exercises along with her. A great butt-kick (literally) workout. I am glad that the series is divided into three circuits, because it’s probably going to take thirty days for me to get used to doing the first one! LOL I suggest starting at level one and working your way to the other levels, just as she recommends. It’s the best way to prevent injury.
  321. This workout is AWESOME!!! I’ve seen a lot of reviews here that mention this workout destroyed their knees or having already had bad knees, it made them worse. Listen people!!! I bought this fully aware that I *DO* have knee problems. I’ve had 2 knee surgeries already. But seriously, DON’T BE STUPID! Jillian has a girl on the video doing the low impact version of these exercises. WATCH HER! Don’t push yourself further than your body can go. If you feel pain or feel that inner voice telling you, “hmm…you’re a wimp, don’t do this,” listen to it! I’ve done this workout every day for 2 weeks now, using all the low impact versions of the exercises and it’s been KILLING me. I love it! It gets my heart rate up and I am very sore the next day. I’m a moderate size with a good 15-20 pounds to lose so I’m very pleased to already have lost 5, plus I see a huge difference in my muscle strength. I must mention, for those with knee problems, she does not have modifiers for jumping jacks (though sometimes if I’m feeling achy there I will just step rather than jump). So if your knees are bad enough that you can’t do a *little* bit of jumping, you might not want this video. Just walk or swim. When she does the deep knee lunges, I modify it DEFINITELY. But otherwise, this workout is fabulous! I really feel a huge difference in my arm muscles, back, abs and even legs. It is truly a FULL BODY workout!!! FIVE STARS!!!
  322. This video is a nice short workout, but is still very effective. I’m only on day 8 and I’ve lost 3 pounds. I like that it doesn’t take me an hour or more to workout my whole body. I would recommend this to my friends.
  323. I got this DVD about 3 weeks ago and have used it probably 7 times and I am already noticing huge changes in my body. The levels don’t differ so much that you have to build up slowly, so I just pick a different one each time so I don’t get bored. I can feel my strength increasing and the workouts are fun! I highly recommend this DVD.
  324. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this DVD. It has three levels so you can advance when you want and is only about 20 minutes of work out time. I used it about three times a week and lost 6.3 pounds and 6 inches total in one month from level one alone; I probably could have lost more if I had a better diet plan and did it every day but thats another review . Anyway, I really recommend this DVD for those who work out at home and cant spend an hour or more daily in the gym. I work two jobs and attend school full time so my work outs are usually around 5am (when I don’t hit the snooze button). This DVD fit perfectly into my schedule.
  325. Three different levels you can choose. Great if you don’t have a lot of time to work-out and is challenging.
  326. i am a female 5′9, 29 years old and 147 lbs. i am trying to lose 10 pounds (not gonna happen… well maybe) and tone up for my wedding. a month ago i started going to the gym for the first time in my life. i’ve been going 4 or 5 times a week, taking spin, sculpt and conditioning classes. when i first started going i felt like throwing up. but now i am starting to see definition and while i definitely work hard, i dont feel sick while i’m there… i feel good. and i think i will be “fit for life” from now on. it started as a wedding diet, but it’s become a life NEED. today i couldnt go to the gym so i decided to finally do this dvd. i know you all want to hear about results… but I dont have those for you now because i only did level ONE one time just now. i will give you my review as someone who just recently started working out. THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR LEVEL 1 jillian does a good job combining cardio with strength exercises. for people that say level one is too hard… you have a VERY long way to go– not to discourage you. you need to push yourself. you are very out of shape, and level one is really NOTHING to me now. and, i repeat, i have been only working out 1 month. sure i felt warm and it felt pretty good, but this is really a LIGHT WEIGHT workout. i did NOT break a sweat at all. this workout is kind of like the sculpt and conditioning classes i take at the gym. except those classes are 1 hr long, and this is just 20 minutes and much easier! i have seen results from being at the gym for a month doing 1 hr classes 4 to 5 times a week, but i have to say that if you’re JUST doing 20 minutes of this every day for a month, you really cant expect to see much except some toning and maybe some added flexibility. I must admit, while i did the unmodified versions of all the exercises, i have HORRIBLE upper body strength and had to do the modified push-ups. a month ago i couldnt even do those! i’m giving it 4 stars cuz for 20 minutes, Jillian gives us the best workout she can, in 3 different levels. the thing is, if you’re serious about weight loss or you have a big goal, this is NOT going to be enough. this is a good substitute for when you CANT go to the gym. she should be honest about that. but at one point she does say “if you’re just going to do 20 minutes, you can’t stop for even 1 second.” i felt like level one was a good “warm up.” In fact, now that i am warmed up, I am going to try level 2.
  327. I had to buy this once my friends started doing the 30 Day Shred (30DS) and I have to say it is a tough workout for beginners like me who have not worked out in a long time, but definitely a good one. The first few days I hated it but I am in Level 2 now and moving right along with results! I highly recommend her DVD. Its only 20minutes of your day but the 20 minutes is equal to 1-2 hours in the gym!
  328. This workout is good, it’s not great however. I am in good shape, workout 5-6 days a week and do cardio and weights. Here’s my problem with Jillian – she is way to full of herself and it is annoying, here’s some examples: As soon as level 1 starts, Jillian walks in with this “full of myself” attitude. Scripted of course; saying to the other 2 girls doing the workout with her, “so you think you can handle it huh, we’ll see” – obnoxious. Then she gets really full of herself when she says “I’m hoping you know me, (with a smug look on her face) I’m Jillian” – not needed, come on. Shortly thereafter she says “if you want to look like this (as she is pointing to one of the girls) watch her, and you’ll get there in no time……right…..ya, right” – are you kidding me, you are supposed to be encouraging people, not belittling them. So, if you can get past her annoying attitude, it’s an okay workout, but not as good as Beachbody.
  329. I’ve done this DVD 3 times so far but I can’t seem to do it two days in a row because of how SORE it makes me…. I guess that means it’s doing it’s job? It does get your heart rate up and Jillian is not nearly as annoying as a lot of the other trainers out there, so I’m happy with my purchase. I wish it had more than one workout per level, but once you’re comfortable with the work-out you can put some music on to drown out all the dailogue so that you don’t have to hear Jillian say the same things over and over again.
  330. I have purchased quite a few dvds – trying to lose weight and tone up. Usually I can get through most of the workout before becoming tired. 5 minutes into this dvd, and I was breathing heavy. I know now not to try to warm up before hand (bike ride) because you will get all the warm up you need in the first 5 minutes. Wow..
  331. I would consider myself new to working out and to cardio especially. I have been doing mostly weight training for the last 6 months or so, and I realized I needed to do a lot more cardio if I wanted to lose more weight, so I gave this a go. Very hard for beginners or overweight people. I had to stop and rest a number of times, and this was just on level one. Haven’t even made it to level 2 yet. She relies on lots of jumpy movements (jumping jacks, jump squats, etc) and by the end of the workout on day 3, my knees and wrists needed a break. Very hard on the joints unless you have a very thick mat underneath. If you don’t have a problem with joints, this will certainly get you sweating!
  332. I purchased this DVD about 2 1/2 weeks ago and I can already see the results. I am not one of those exercise obsessed people who can or want to work out every day. I use this DVD 4 times a week along with a moderate diet. It is easy to follow – no crazy moves that require me to re wind just to follow the routine. The three different work outs make it easy to stay engaged in the whole exercise regime. I have a tendency to become bored in a few days and Jillian has kept me motivated and engaged. It is short enough so that you don’t dread working out and intense enough so that the 20 + minutes make a difference in a short time. This is a great video for someone who wants to get back in shape for the warm weather.
  333. I credit this DVD with changing my body from “good” shape to amazing shape. I have been exercising 4-5 days a week for about 8 years, and added this DVD to my routine in November of 2009. Total transformation. My arms, legs and abs are cut and defined now, more-so than they ever have been. Combined with some diet changes, I have lost 10 pounds since starting this DVD, and that was with a pretty good baseline of fitness. I do this DVD 2 times a week, doing other types of exercise the other 2-3 times a week (yoga, strength, cardio). I also have BFBM and NMTZ, but I do them much less often than Shred. After I started Shred, my other workouts starting feeling easier. I never would have thought that a 20 minute workout could be so effective. You can definitely start with a lower weight (2-3 lbs) and work your way up to higher weights. I still use 2 lbs for some of the moves because they are so challenging. Level 1 is a great place to start, but it will feel easy in no time! Levels 2 and 3 are, in my opinion, equally challenging, and I would venture to say that Level 2 is actually the most difficult. Level 2 incorporates quite a few moves in Plank Pose, which is killer! I appreciate Jillian’s no-excuses attitude. If you know anything about Jillian you should expect her to be hard on you. I find her sarcasm and tough attitude in the DVD to be motivating and fun! I would not hesitate to purchase this DVD. You will not be disappointed. I wouldn’t use it as my only form of exercise, but I would highly recommend having it around for those days when you need a quick, highly effective workout that you don’t have to plan out yourself. Get ready to sweat!
  334. Great workout in a short amount of time! I am only about 15 pounds overweight and I wanted to lose a few pounds and tone up. However, after doing level one for a week, I developed bicep tendonitis in my left (weaker) arm from all the pushups. I looked ahead to level 2 and 3 hoping to find exercises I could use to replace the pushups, but I saw more pushups and exercises in that same position. I guess I will rest the arm for a few weeks and look for some exercises to subsitute for some of the pushups so that I can do the rest of the video. Also, be very careful with your knees on all of the lunges and squats.
